Not all presidents have come from the big prestigious schools, some came from small prestigious Oregon schools!

Herbert Hoover - Photo Courtesy of SDASM ArchivesYep, Oregon has a president that attended one of Oregon’s best colleges and it wasn’t Oregon State or University of Oregon, it was Pacific Academy. OK, now I can see all of you Oregon residents turning to each other and saying, “Pacific Academy, don’t you mean Pacific University?” Nope, it was Pacific Academy and is now better known as George Fox College.

Many famous people have graduated from George Fox. One that I’ve loved for years, because of his comedy radio show, was Dr. Demento who brought us “Weird” Al Yankovic and many other great comedy geniuses. But, who was the president that attended but didn’t graduate from George Fox? President Herbert Hoover, our countries 31st president. He attended Pacific for two years before working as an office assistant at his uncle’s real estate office in Salem, Oregon! Yep, we had a president that worked in the real estate industry.

President Hoover lived a hard life, having been left an orphan at age nine, but he certainly didn’t let that hold him back and he showed that even in the face of adversity that you can do anything you set your mind to!

It is important that the ruling class realize there are other schools other than Harvard.

Todd, I'm a bit of a history buff and love this kind of unusual facts that we can dig up on famous people that originally hailed from our area.  Good detective work.

"Not all presidents have come from the big prestigious schools, "

Thank God for that!

Prestigious schools are like celebrities more often than not they're much more trouble than their worth!

As to President Hoover, I love his Dam I spent much os 20 years floating on the back waters and I can't imagine life with out his cleaner.  8>)

Todd I get sick and tired of hearing how great Yale, Harvard and Princeton are.  I believe most of these kids are spoiled punks.  Let them persevere and have to get a job while in school and build some real character.

And look at President Frankllin Roosevelt. He was struck with polio in 1921 and went on to be the first President to be elected to four terms.

He was one of the ones that had to work hard to get where he got to and he never seemed to have forgotten that.
