Living in New Hampshire offers many fine outdoor activities. Camping is just one of them. This is a 2nd in my camping series. I'd like to take you to places where Jay and I camp and know well.

As many of you know, Jay and I take a yearly trek to Bar Harbor Maine. Bar Harbor is a 5 hour car ride from our home in Hampstead New Hampshire and those 5 hours are well worth it!

We’re campers and camp in our 40 foot motor home. I hate to call it camping as my motor home really has all the comforts of home and then some. From tile floors, Corian counters, washer and dryer to my awesome stereo and Satellite TV…it’s very comfortable camping to us.

We started camping in a tent and then decided we were getting too old to be on the ground, so about 5 years ago we bought our first Class A motor home. We loved the life style so much we bought a larger motor home 4 years later.

New England has some mighty fine camping. That is one major plus to owning a home in New Hampshire. A world of exploration, gorgeous ocean and beach camping plus mountains and lakes galore, all within reach and very affordable.

If you’re a camper you know it’s hard to find or maybe it’s better stated that it is hard to get the perfect spot. Choice camping spots go fast and reservations are a must.

We book our Bar Harbor trip a year in advance…before we leave we reserve and pay to guarantee out site for the following year and we always get the same spot. I’m very willing to pay extra to make sure I have “my” spot.

The views from our site are breathtaking. Waking up to the sounds of the waves caressing the rocks is just awesome. I step out my door and I’m just steps away from the water’s edge. We’ve seen wild life from Eagles to Seals and have met the most wonderful people while camping in Bar Harbor.

Maine Majestic OceanAcadia National Park is a big draw and the Bar Harbor area can be very crowded, especially downtown Bar Harbor. The Carriage trails in Acadia are great for biking, walking and horseback riding and the views from atop of Cadillac Mountain are incredible.

We always make sure to stop at Jordan House for Pop-Over’s…it’s a ritual that we simply wouldn’t miss.

Lobsters and Steamers for dinner as often as we can afford them…we buy them off the Lobster man and cook them ourselves at our site. The experience is priceless thank god for Master Card!

Schoodic Point, a part of Acadia separate from the main area is a not to miss spot. It is very much off the beaten path and usually never crowded. We pack a picnic lunch and drive out to the point and sit upon the rocks enjoying the view, each other and a fine lunch.

Many have asked why we go back to the same place each year? Well truth be told no matter how often we go we always see something new each trip and the scenery is ever changing as only Down East Maine can be.

We love it and I hope my video show and my virtual tour of the area will help explain why. Click here for the Virtual Tour>>>>Bar Harbor Miane 2007 virtual tour and enjoy my video just click on the box below...be gentle it was my first attempt. I think it might be a little long but you can get a feel for our campsite at the KOA in Bar Harbor, Maine

Hi Moni,

Just beautiful!  We're so jealous of your adventures in Maine.  We had hoped to take a quick trip but my Mom took ill so we have been home this summer.  Thanks for sharing.  It's good to at least be able to live through your eyes.

Warm Regards,

Lisa

Hi lisa...This is my 1st video. I was afraid it was too long and that I would sound too much like a Yankee <gg> but figured it would show the area (campsite) a little better than the pictures do.

I hope your mom is doing better?

Monika, now that is my kind of camping, a 40 foot motor home, and lobsters and steamers for dinner.  I think I could handle that :)

I love to camp.  Up until a few short years ago, I tent camped at Yellowstone for 2 weeks, last week June, first week July.

Got very cold at night, but worth the effort.  We've often camped in the Blue Ridge in Virginia too, but it's very crowded.

Great times.  I'm sure you love it.  Corian countertops?????

Lenn....I still carry my tent with me. It fits very nicely in the basement of my motor home. Probably where it will stay!  We love camping and go as often as we can.

Hey Monika - loved both the RES show and the virtual tour!  It does indeed look like a fabulous place to go 'camping'.  Who wouldn't love camping the way you guys go - in style!  It is a gorgeous motor home, and I'm so glad Bear and I finally got to see it in person last week - beautiful for sure!  That kind of camping I could handle, and throw in a few lobsters - we'd be all set!!

Fun post and tours!

Monika - It looks like a great place to spend some quality time.  It is after 11:00 PM yet I am wishing I could get my hands on a couple of those lobsters.  I am sure after this great post this camp site will have a few more visitors.

Joan... LOL...yeah I need a better name for it! HautTravel....sounds good.

Monika - great video! I told Jay's twin that we would just HAVE to try and make it up next year to New England! I miss the eastern shore!  We still tent camp, but now that we're older you feel every rock and tree root!

Monika - He does....he says that they're both so handsome they put everybody else to shame! LOL! Mike really does think they look alike, although Jay looks taller than Mike.

Jay is about 6'2"...he was taller but he is shrinking with age!!! LOL. I wonder if they looked alike when they were younger or if it's only the gray hair and beard?

Mike swears he's 5'8".... I let him live in that fantasy world!!  I really think he is about that tall. I've never seen him without a beard! We've been married 25 years and he had it when we met and now I'm afraid to have him shave it!  He always says that I would leave him if I ever saw him! I've seen pictures of him when he was younger. I thought he was cute even then!
