Oahu traffic updates - visit GoAkamai.Org

The State of Hawaii's Department of Transportation has created a new website with useful information about Oahu traffic.  Check it out:

GoAkamai.Org

If you've been enjoying some light traffic days lately, get ready for things to get back to normal!  Public schools are starting up and the University of Hawaii's campus will begin classes on August 23rd.

The new website is a giant leap forward from what we had in the past.  Older websites had cameras at various intersections throughout Oahu.  A snapshot here and there is easily misinterpreted.  One minute the light is read and there are lots of cars in view.  A minute later the light is green and it appears that traffic is moving smoothly. The reality could be either of those or something in between.

The new website features a map with flow patters.  Green = traffic moving smoothly.  Yellow = moderate traffic. Red = heavy traffic and Black = stop and go.

Other features include information about road construction and lane closures, links for weather and surf reports, links to airports throughout the state, rideshare and bicycling information.

If properly used, this website can help us save time and actually alleviate traffic congestion.  If you're planning to run errands and have a flexible schedule, checkout the site and decide if you should hit the road now or maybe wait another hour!  Wouldn't we all like less traffic and frustration?
