From Portland, the City of Bridges, via the Bridge of Cities, to Vancouver Washington...

I-5 Bridge Between Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington in the Summer Sunset 2010, by John Slocum

Photo Credits: John Slocum of Vancouver Washington, Summer of 2010 taken from the Vancouver Waterfront Trail, with assistance from Kathryn Alexander.  The I-5 Bridge is actually two concrete and steel spans crossing the mighty Columbia River.  The City of Portland is an easy 15 minutes or less drive on most days from this point, while Downtown Vancouver is 1 minute.

I so want to visit your part of the country.  I keep looking for a timeshare trade but there does not appear to be a lot of time shares.

I like this shot - I've been across the bridge to Portland many times but have never seen quite this angle!!

I never knew that Portland was the City of Bridges.  I always learn something on Active Rain!

Hello Marchel, glad you like the photo.  The big "timeshare" outfit in our area is Westmark (fka Trendwest).  They have some nice vacation and urban properties to visit.

Nancy - I know most I-5 travelers don't easily see the different views of this bridge.  It can seem easy to get lost once one first ventures onto Vancouver's streets!

Tony and Darcy, glad you liked this one!  Thanks!

Steve - with two major rivers in our area, and many smaller ones as well, many bridegs are required for the road system to function!

Hello Paul, ah yes -- the Red Lion at the Quay (pronounced "Key" in these parts).  A neat landmark for many generations that sits at the western base of the bridge on the Vancouver Washington side.  Thanks!

Alexander,

One thing is for sure...when I was in Portland recently I got re-routed due to construction on a bridge...honestly it was interesting as all get out... the garmin kept trying to take us across that bridge...I hadn't figured out yet how to detour...so we just kept ignoring till it "recalculated" us past it!  LOL

Alexander - That photo tells me its name is "Moody Blues."  It makes the heart feel quiet and tranquil.

Hello Juli, yes a sunset viewed next to this huge river can be quite amazing.  Thanks!

Lori, if you came through town on a weekend they have been doing work on the newer I-205 bridge, and sending traffic to the smaller I-5 bridge.  This has made traffic worse for the I-5 than it is for the I-205!

Myrl - this truly is a great spot to enjoy the river and a sunset.  Glad you like it!
