When times are tough, sitting in a classroom won't pay the bills. I'm always in favor of taking courses and attending seminars on a variety of real estate topics. Designations are like a collection for me with an array of nine. New construction courses have been complete with the exception of CAD at Dean College with a 4.0 average. All of these educational undertakings were accomplished when the real estate market was booming.
During this economic fiasco, participating in anything that is non monetary producing is a poor decision, in my opinion. I've read some posts that suggest that agents who have slowed in production should participate in courses now to fill in the gaps. Well, that's great if you are working just to fill in gaps!!
When I first started working in the new construction sector of real estate, every morning you would find me in the local coffee shop at 6:30am. Guess who else was there?? That's right. It was a local meeting place for the area builders. Guess who they became familiar with and began listing their subdivisions with??? Right again. It was I. Face to face contact is by far the best method of prospecting.
I suppose I could have opted to sleep late, and then attend seminars during the week. My gut told me to start pounding the pavement and put that well founded real estate knowledge about new construction to good use over a fresh cup of coffee. I'm certainly glad that I did that. You may want to find out where your future business has his morning coffee and develop an appreciation for that Colombian Brew!!!
