Are you paying too much for your homeowner's insurance?

When shopping for homeowner's insurance, it is always a good idea to shop around and compare different policies.

The California Dept of Insurance makes it easy with this interactive California insurance comparison tool. The tool details out the annual premiums and deductibles by carrier.

In addition to actual fees, it is also important to research the company's track record and future ability to pay out claims. You will want to know about any complaints the company may have had, as well as their financial stability.

Don't forget about service! You want your company to be responsive when you need them the most! You will also want the claims process to be as hassle free as possible.

Get recommendations from people you trust. If you are considering buying a home, start shopping for insurance early to make sure you can easily obtain insurance for the home you fall in love with!

Ginger you make some great points here... housing prices are high already and I find that most cut corners where they can, and since most will not make a claim here in FL unless its catastrophic (for fear of even higher premiums, or being dropped all together), I see that most will take the cheapest policy without much thought of later consequences. Drastic measures in drastic times I suppose...

Good points for buyers looking for Homeowners Insurance. A lot of times people go for price only and overlook the service part of it. You do want a company that will pay out when you need it instead of getting a run a round.
