My first ActiveRain Menage a Trois!*

By
Home Stager

I've been waiting for weeks for this day.  Some of you may have Friggatriskaidekaphobia  (Fear of Friday the 13th), but on this day, I absolutely did not.

Our meeting has been mentioned in some of the comments around ActiveRain.  Plans were made; emails sent; a final phone call to firm things up.  The three of us would meet.  Nothing to hide.  We're all adults.  We had a small window of opportunity, so the three of us had to be on time.

It's almost noon and I'm hoping my GPS (I call her Daphne) was right.  I'd never been to this place but I knew it had to be close.  "Bear right on Wilton Manors Drive". ......  "Arriving at destination on right"  .......  I see colorful balloons and an outdoor patio.  There it it.. Rosie's Bar & Grill.

Rosie's Bar & Grill

I'm out of the car and I see two figures sitting at the bar, their backs to me.  One I'd already met, another I felt like I'd known forever. His back was towards me, but I would have known him anywhere....

Roger Mucci and Linca Scofield

                                                                                        Roger Mucci and Linda Scofield

Three ActiveRain Stagers sitting around eating Fish 'n Chips and guess what we talked about!  Yes, you're right, Staging was mentioned.  But more than that we got to know the person behind the post.  If you've been at ActiveRain at all for the last few months then you're sure to have read Roger's blog about his mother, his life and his Home Staging and Redesign business, Shaken with a Twist.  Needing a much deserved break, Roger flew down to Ft Lauderdale yesterday for a visit with his brother, Tony, and Linda and I were eagerly looking forward to meeting him. Roger minces no words, but I'm glad he doesn't.  Political Correctness is highly over-rated.

I'd met Linda Scofield a few months earlier when we decided to form an informal "group" to help support each other as we strive to build and grow our Home Staging and ReDesign businesses. Linda's company, Above and Beyond Home Staging and Redesign is one county south of me but she also provides staging services in her home town of Toccoa, GA.  I have to admire Linda because she is an example of a new business owner getting out there and networking in her community through her local Chamber of Commerce.

So, there you have it!  My first ActiveRain Meange a Trois.  I wrote a post last week about picking up the phone and not relying strictly on email or Tweets.... Reach Out and Touch Someone.   I know many of you already have met other ActiveRainers when you're on your travels.  For those of you who haven't had the opportunity, I encourage you to try it just one time.  Who knows .... you may like it!

Kathy,

I'll phone people on A/R occasionally. It's good to put a voice to the name.

Hi Kathy - looks and sounds like you had a great time. Looking forward to the Orlando Raincamp to "reach out and touch" (figuratively) some of my new friends on Active Rain

Roger- yes you were there, at the table with Linda and me!  Keep up!

C- Hey I make my own bbq sauce, so we're on!!! I've loved reading about your road trips with the wee ones, even when you were just out buying them shoes.

Sergio- he unique, giving and has an uncensored mouth... perfect!

Ana- I forgot to add that someone has to bring Ninfa's green sauce and chips!

Donald- yes we all are stagers but Roger is in Ohio, Linda is in the next county.  I think we could choose to see us as competitors but you know what, it's a lot easier to see each other as peers.  That way we all benefit.

Rene- It's a lot easier to "not get along with" someone you only know in 2 dimensions.  When you add the voice and actual person to the equation, then you see another human just trying to make it through the day, just like anyone else.

Rebecca- We were all looking forward to it and I hope we'll get to see Roger again since his brother is in the area.

Terry- I've done that too.  Once I started to email someone about a question I had, and then just decided to take a chance, pick up the phone and call her.  It was a lot easier than trying to write an email, choosing words, not wanting to offend, etc.

Stephen- I may be there so it'll be fun trying to guess if that face really does fit the profile picture.

C- are you going to RainCamp in Orlando??

Yup. Going to RainCamp. Hubby is minion sitting (Yay!). I was really bent out of shape about missing DC and Boston. Gave him a heads up about bringing some Rainers to our FL home while we are on vacation. He's getting the house ready now for the boys to get their "little minion thang" on. They require snack-age and toys for the den...

We have to turn the den into a playroom (they threw us out the last  time we came and routinely close the door in our face after demanding that we leave "their room" LOL). Our guest room is naked (not a single stick of furniture in it) and the boys wont stay in their room. They start out there but always manage to be in our bed every morning (LOL). Why bother having twin beds??? They are either camping out on the floor  with SpongeBob blankets, kicking us off the counch or invading our bedroom. Since our room only has a bed and dressing bench I really need to go buy some more furniture with the hubby. :-)

I'm also gonna have to buy a lot of NY bagels before we drive down. Last time we were there they found them unacceptable and gave me wee people grief about going back to NY for Elijah, Jayland and bagels in the morning. I'm trying to talk their Mom into driving down so the boys can have their best friends. I promised them Disney. They are very excited about that.

I'm thinking I will evetually need a van so I can learn how to be a proper soccer mom with other people's kids in tow. I bet their friends would love to learn how to drive my Dad's tractor (LOL). :-)

Kathy - This looks like so much fun - sure wish I could have been there - we would have made it a "menage a quatre"!  Really enjoyed watching the video and seeing you all in moving images.  Yes, what a naughty title - love it!

Congrats on the feature.  As someone who has met quite a few AR's there is nothing quite like it.  You feel like you have known them forever but you have never met! (til now!)  Glad you had such a good time!

C- Another road trip for you!  OMG can't wait to read the post.

Sally- Now you would have won the prize for having travelled the furthest.  Have to credit Roger for the title.

Debra- Thank you!  You are so right about finally meeting AR's.  You read their blog, make comments, but then when you meet them you feel like you've just met your pen pal.

Hi Kathy, though it has been a week since your...ahem..."meeting" I wanted to comment on the apparent "good time had by all!"  I have actually had this "experience", (the meeting of 3 Rainers, not a menage'! =o) and we had fun chatting and lunching!  I am guessing adding Roger to your mix created a bit more of that, than we 3 ladies had...LOL

Cheryl- ah-ha, you had one too!  We had so much fun and it was as if we'd known each other for years.  We just picked up where our posts left off.

Not a real person

If I were sitting around eating fish and chips, I would not have been talking about anything because my mouth would have been full of fish and chips, and my wise old grandmother taught me not to talk with my mouth full. LOL

Russel- you're right.  I think we must have done the "round robin" otherwise none of us would have been able to eat.  The fish and chips were PDG.

Kathy, you are going to have  to show me where to eat. We are still trying to find neighborhood gems. There is always a really good hole in the wall mom pop place that does something exceptionally well. I love sea food. I need a good spot for an outside office besides Starbucks for tea and sugar. :-)
