Why Do Some AR Members Seem Obsessed With Getting Featured? Does it help them better connect with other ActiveRain members? Does it help them better connect with potential clients? If not, then what’s the value of being featured?
I've been active on ActiveRain for a little over a month and I’ve been dutifully reading other’s posts and commenting regularly. From time-to-time, a post appears discussing what it takes to get your post featured. One such post is Tammie White's “What is the Secret Ingredient in Writing a Featured Post?"... a good post with lots of great comments… and that was featured. (Congratulations, Tammie!)
For me, the secret ingredient really isn’t a secret. Provide useful, informative content… written in an easy-to-read style… and keep it brief.
I must say, though, that I don’t understand why some AR members seem so obsessed with being featured. My goal on AR is twofold:
- Connect with my peers
- Connect with potential clients
As I understand, getting featured doesn't accomplish either of those. I’ve connected with lots of AR members simply by commenting to their posts. Not only I have not been featured… This is my very first post. Yet, I have connected with many of my peers.
To better connect with potential clients, I believe I need to write posts… to provide useful, informative content… written in an easy-to-read style… that I keep brief. My goal is to connect with potential clients, not to get featured.
But being a newbie, I readily concede that I may be missing the point of why others want to be featured.
So I pose this question: What’s the value of being featured?
