FRANKLIN PARK IN PURCELLVILLE, VIRGINIA - FISHING, SWIMMING, TENNIS and MUCH MORE.Lenn

NEVER BEEN FISHING??  GOODNESS, LET'S GO.

A wonderful fishing lake is right here in Purcellville in Loudoun County, Virginia.  It's right in FRANKLIN PARK just west of downtown Purcellville.  If you don't have a license, you can get one online.  Of course, if you need fishing gear and want to save some cash, visit Dicks Sporting Goods at Dulles Town Center Shopping.

There are fish in Franklin Park Lake.  I've caught them.  I took a family with me one summer afternoon and Jack (2 years old) and Hanna (11 years old) caught lots of Bluegill.  You can fish from the banks or from the fishing piers on both sides of the lake.  The lake is stocked with Largemouth Bass and Bluegill, perfect fish for an afternoon of adventure for the youngsters.

Careful Jack.  That hook is sharp.                                           Hanna can cast almost like a pro.

Fishing Piers at Franklin Park

Catching fish at the lake in Franklin Park is easy from the fishing piers.  Dad enjoyed it too.

I use my trusty bamboo fly rod and even a little Bluegill is fun to catch.

Barbara.  Indeed I do.  But, no good photos of my fishing travels.  I now know to keep them for blogging.  Soon.  Soon.

Judy.  Thanks.  My little photos are an adventure of their own.   I'm planning some for winter scenes.

I see Patrick Henry College on your map.  Is this the area of Virginia that Henry was from?

Lenn,

That brings back fond memories.  The kids love catching fish.  We used to vacation in a small town in Pennsylvania with the cousins who had a small lake where the fish would bite quickly.  Ideal for 3-6 year olds.

Great area shout-out!

All the best, Michelle

Lenn, looks like a wonderful day of fishing and enjoying the weather. It's been 5 years since David and I have fly fished. We are living in some beautiful country for it and we came from beautiful country where we fly fished most every weekend in the high country of Yosemite National Park. Those were the best days of our lives. Keep fishing, Lynn! It's good for the soul! We need to do same!

I love to fish Lenn! And it looks like your day was perfect for casting and catching! We usually fish at least once a week during the summer months, if the weather permits.

Thanks for this post Lenn.  I have a pond in my yard stocked with fish...haven't been fishing it though.  You've inspired me to get the pole out.

Jim H.  No.  Patrick Henry was born in Hanover VA just north of Richmond about 100 miles from here.

Amy.  Thanks.  I like that one too.

Jackie.  Indeed.  It was a nice relaxing Saturday afternoon.

Steve.  I love the out of doors.  Been fishing and shooting all my life.

Jim.  Good grief.

Michelle.  That is a perfect description of the lake at Franklin Park.

Dick and Dixie.  Me too, if it's a small lake full of small fish.

Jeanean.  You're in trout country.  That is great fly fishing although I love to fish for Largemouth Bass with streamers and poppers too.

Wanda.  Sounds like your priorities are in order.

Craig.  What??  You have a pond????  What??

We used to stock our pond (in Texas it's called a tank) every year with catfish and bass..but haven't done it in several years.   I think it's time to call them up and get on the list for next spring!

Lenn,

What a great example of a hyper local post! I think I'm going to retire for the day and go find a nearby lake :-)

Bob.  Thanks.  As soon as it cools off a bit more, I plan to do some serious fishing.  Right now, after the heat we've had, the Largemouth Bass are DEEP and have a very slow mogabilism.  Soon.  Soon.

Lenn, your family fishing photos are great and its a wonderful blog!  I also love your personality graphics, hand on hips in rebuke, flowers when complimenting and now your fishing one.

The last time I went fishing was when I was in jr. high with a great uncle, my brother and sister.  I caught 8 catfish and my brother, who I was competing against, only came up with 2 or 3.  Not sure if there were limits back then.  It sure was a great 52 mile ride home for Andi, not so much for my brother. :)

Andi.  I doubt that there was a limit on Catfish.  It's great fun and a wonderful way to enjoy local amenities.
