I cherish quotes, poems, articles and books that inspire and motivate. And, I save a select few that resonate with me in a special way. Today I was going through my file of favorites saved over the years and because I was so moved by Karen Anne Stone's post "My brother would have been 63 today...... I feel compelled to post a "letter" I gave to my clients and friends back in 1992.
Some Things I Wish I had Said to You
"I Appreciate You"
You've done much that goes unthanked. And much of what you have done is never recognized by others. Someone should let you know that those unsung, unrecognized acts are appreciated.
"I Care"
There are times when we all need to hear those words. Those "down days" when on the percentage scale, more goes wrong than right. Had I said it, maybe things wouldn't have changes a whole lot, but you would have known that someone does genuinely car.
"Forgive Me"
Forgotten by me now, I know there were times when my insensitivity contributed to your hut. I may do that again, but for now, anyway, know that I'm sorry.
"Tell Me About It"
When it was obvious you had some genuine desire to share a part of you, the special part when something unique was happening in your life, I was too busy. I should have listened.
"Thank You"
I can't tell you how your kindnesses and generous considerations have affected me. If I didn't say thanks, I thought it. Now I'm letting you know.
"I Miss You"
There were many times when your absence hurt and your presence would have made life better.
"I Love You"
I really do. And though our paths might cross at crazy times and our agendas are often different, and the possibility of disagreement might loom between us, I am sincerely interested in what contributes to making up your days.
I can't promise I'll say those things to you every time I should. But I can promise that somehow I'll know that I should have. It's that which motivates me to say one more time with a hear full of love and respect: I appreciate you!
