Your Mission Valley neighbor: SeaWorld San Diego and beluga whales

Call Jim Frimmer for all your San Diego County real estate needsSeaWorld San Diego welcomed a baby beluga whale back on June 23. Unfortunately, it's mother immediately abandoned it, leaving SeaWorld staff rushing to save the little fellow. The only other beluga whale born at SeaWorld San Diego, back in 2008, also was abandoned by its mom and died shortly afterwards.

Call Jim Frimmer for all your San Diego County real estate needsAlthough beluga whale births are rare in captivity, meaning there's not a lot of experience to rely on in caring for them, the SeaWorld staff has been successful in getting this one almost through its second month with constant care and lots of food, in this case, "food" being defined as a mixture of milk, fish oil, ground up fish, and whipping cream. Whipping cream? Yes, but not for flavor. Whipping cream has a lot of fat in it, which this blubbery, 139-pound little guy needs. So if you're on a diet, whipping cream on your apple pie probably is a diet buster.

The little guy is not out for us to see yet,
but the pictures in this post are of beluga whales at SeaWorld San Diego.

Hey, everyone!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I'm trying to follow up on these older posts like this one to see if anyone had any questions or if I really need to respond to anyone's comments.

I will read all the comments and respond to any that need a response, but since this post is rather old, rather than making comments here in my post to each and every one of you, I'll just let everyone know that I have read all the comments and if there are any questions, I'll answer those in comments below this one. Otherwise I'll simply post this comment and then head over to your blogs soon to visit and do some reading and commenting. I hope you'll have a nice welcome mat out for me!

Don't forget to let your cat come out to play with all the other ActiveRain kitties. Your cat-friendly dogs can come, too!

If you need a great cat book, get yourself a copy of Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Kathy - No name that I could find, but wildlife keepers love to name everything so I suspect it does, unless they are refraining from naming it until they are sure it will survive.
