The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum located in Norwalk, Connecticut was built in 1864. It is a 62 room mansion built by banker-railroad tycoon LeGrand Lockwood. The estate used to reach down to the Norwalk River and from the estate you can see Long Island Sound.  In 1941 the estate was sold to the City of Norwalk and designated a public park, in 1971 it was designated a National Historic Landmark.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion is available for rent for private parties and weddings. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is now open for tours. On August 29th, 2010 the 3rdannual Old-Fashioned Flea Market will be held at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion in Norwalk, Ct. from 10 am to 5 pm. Featured items will be antiques, jewelry, clothing and toys. There will be as well a car show of classic and antique cars on display from 11 am to 3pm. David, I really enjoyed your blog.  The picture of the Mansion really caught my eye.  To think that this was someones home back in 1864, it was pretty high class stuff then.  I always wonder what it was really like to live that high on the hog.  Hope the weather is good for the flea market on the 29th.  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the comments, I remember that in Junior High School we did a Field trip to this mansion, if I recall correctly there was a bowling alley in the basement. From the second floor you can see Long Island Sound, it truly is an amazing home ~ Dave
