I lived in Los Angeles for 9 years before I ever went to the South Pasadena Farmer's Market. Who knew? (Thanks, Carrie!). If you live anywhere near the east side of Hollywood, the South Pasadena Farmer's Market is a must see. It is held every Thursday from 4pm-8pm in the Mission District of South Pasadena.
This particular Farmer's Market is superior. Not only is there a delicious selection of local produce, of course, but there are musical performers, lots of kids running around, and a diverse group of food vendors making affordable and delcious food (homemade tamales, for example). The vibe is friendly and casual...you just want to stick around for a while and sample all of the delicious food!
South Pasadena is such a cute neighborhood, with a hometown feel. I come from a place (State College, PA) that had that hometown feel and I know it well. It's not typically easy to achieve, but South Pasadena gets it right. There is an old-timey, East Coast feel to the little town, enhanced by the GOLD LINE metro being walking distance from the Mission District (so you can easily get there from Hollywood, folks)!
And there are shops and stores that you can imagine would make living there just so charming: Mission Wines, Mission Street Yoga, Mission Ten Eleven Salon, Mission Antiques, Buster's Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, and many, many more places.
So, if you are looking for something to do on a sunny Thursday late afternoon, I highly recommend the South Pasadena Farmer's Market!
