Welcome Home!

Your Relocation Guide to Carteret County, North Carolina

Carteret County, North Carolina

Once you decide that Carteret County, North Carolina is the place for you, You will need a good REALTOR® who is familiar with the area to help you decide which area you want to call Home.   Do you want to be on the island, or on the mainland?  Do you want a condo or a single family residential home? Then you will need to start your property search.  Your REALTOR® can help you with your search.  How many bedroomAcme Movers & Storages and bathrooms do you need?  If you are a boater, do you prefer canal front property or sound front property?  If you have children, you may want to live close to schools and community parks or maybe you want a big back yard? Maybe you would like to build your dream home or maybe you want to rent first?  Whatever you decide, there are many things that you will need to take care of prior to the BIG MOVE DATE!

Below is a list of resources to help you with your move:

You will need to contact the Town Office to make sure you have your water connected and turned on the day you move in.

You will also need to call ahead to set up your Electricity.  There are only 2 companies that provide electricity in Carteret County.  Be prepared to pay a deposit to obtain sevice (amount depends on Square footage, service area and past credit history). Visit the websites or call the numbers below to determine which company will service your new Home.

You may need local Telephone Service, if so contact Century Link.  Or maybe you live by Cell-Phone Only: Verizon, Sprint, and other cell phone providers can all be found in local stores here in Carteret County.

Chances are...You'll need Internet Service available in your new home.  If you are like me, you'll need it immediately!  Below are links to a couple of the internet providers that can offer you service in Carteret County.

Unless you plan on spending every moment at the beach (I wouldn't blamDirectve you) or visiting the many attractions or special events in Carteret County, you or someone in your family may want to watch television sometime.  If so, you will need to contact the local cable company, Time Warner Cable.  If you are a satellite subscriber, you will need to contact your provider about your move.  I am a DirecTV user and when we moved, they took care of everything for us.  From what I understand, Dish Network does the same.

You may decide that you want to leave the packing and moving to the experts.  If so, you will need a good, reliable company. You may also need storage, depending on your closing date, etc.  Acme Movers also provides boat storage if needed.

You will definitely need to get a NC Driver's License when you move.  You are required to do that within 30 days of your residence.  North Carolina requires everyone to take the written exam prior to getting a license.  You can download the Handbook online and get more details about the exam by following the link below.

Fishing and Boating in Carteret County

The fact that you are moving to a Coastal Community, means you may want to acquire a Fishing License.  If you own a boat, you'll need to take care of Boat Registration as soon as possible.  Both of these things can be taken care of at...

Your vehicle and boat trailer will also need to be registered.

If you will be having your mail forward to a Post Office Box, you will need to set that up ahead of time too.  Below is a list of all Carteret County Post Offices by town.  To change your address online, please visit www.usps.com

Your post today is almost identical to something I provide to all my relocating clients. Of course yours is prettier though! Personally, I think this is something EVERY agent needs to have on hand for folks moving in to their area.
