Choosing the Right Real Estate Agent in Windsor, Connecticut (CT) -- Key #2

By

This is second in a series of questions to ask in order to help you choose the right real estate agent to represent you in your upcoming real estate transaction.

Question markKey Question #2 -Ask the agent about their experience and track record.  How long have they been in business and how many homes they have sold?

In the initial article of this series, I suggested you first find out if your prospective real estate agent is full-time or part-time in the real estate business.  A full time agent with little experience or a sales track record, however, may not always be the best choice.  A well-trained and dedicated part-time agent with several years in the business and many successful transactions may indeed be a better choice to help you successfully navigate your home sale or purchase.

A track record is pretty important! It demonstrates that the agent has successfully helped a number of clients complete their real estate transactions. They have proved they can get the job done!

Eyes wide open!As always, there are exceptions to every rule. A newer less experienced agent without a solid track record may be very motivated and very dedicated to help you buy or sell a home.  Again, choosing the right real estate agent isn't just about a checklist of do's and dont's. Rather it's about finding the right fit, and it's about going into your real estate transaction with your eyes wide open!  If you are considering an agent with less experience, you may want to meet their mentor, trainer, or office manager, and make sure there is good oversight and expertise available to them.

The agent who has done a lot of sales obviously knows how to get the job done. Still, some agents who have done lots and lots of sales may be busier and not able to give you as much personal attention. If they have good systems or a good team in place, that's not a problem either, unless it's a problem for you as the seller.  Choosing the right real estate agent is about making a GOOD match.  If you want direct contact with your agent on a regular basis, make sure you get a commitment for the level of service you need and expect.

Don't just hire a real estate agent without asking pertinent questions - it will make choosing the right real estate agent so much easier!

It's almost like dating, ask the question and then ask again!  Being sure that you are working with the right agent is a step that buyers and sellers have to go into with their eyes open.  Referrals from family and friends who know you is a great first step.

Lisa, the resume of an agent is sure important, I think it is very important to have the CLICK between the agent and the client, too.  After all, they have to work for a little while, getting along with each other can make things go more smoothly.

Tish--absolutely, referrals are a great way to start your search

Rita--I agree, it's about making a great MATCH between the seller and the agent. And this is only one part of a series of questions I am elaborating on in my blog...One of my future points will deal with communication styles and that "click"

Great post Lisa!  And yes I've definitely noticed you sneaking up on me on the hartford county leader board! And really - I'm okay with that.  I like that you're with me on the same journey!  It makes getting "there" (wherever "there" is) more fun ... good luck to you!

Karen -  Thanks for the encouragement!  I know there are days when we really need it- and today was one of those.  Keep up the consistent effort!  It will pay off -- and hopefully we'll get "there" faster!

Love your post! Got it just right. Choosing your agent is like choosing the person you'll be marrying...lol ... I wonder why I say it that way....

Will-well thankfully, if the selection is made right, it's a short term marriage, and if its horribly wrong, it's usually even shorter!
