I've been complaining a lot lately about having "writers' block".   So I am going to just start babbling and share.    I've posted a few posts on helping other..... And how strong your words can impact someone.   How a single word could change someones life or maybe just how they perceive something.

With that I would love to share with you a poem that I know inspired me and i've passed it on to my friends and family ......

The Journey   by Mary Oliver

One day you finally knew

what you had to do, and began,

though the voices around you

kept shouting

their bad advice -

though the whole house

began to tremble

and you felt the old tug

at your ankles

"Mend my life!"

each voice cried.

But you didn't stop.

You knew what you had to do,

though the wind pried

 with its stiff fingers

at the very foundations

though their melancholy

was terrible.

It was already late

enough, and a wild night,

and the road full of fallen

branches and stones.

But little by little,

as you left their voices behind,

the stars began to burn

through the sheets of clouds

and there was a new voice

which you slowly

 recognized as your own.

that kept you company

as you strode deeper and deeper

into the world,

determined to do

determined to save

the only thing you could do

the only life that you could save.

Do you best.... do better..... and pay it forward!!!!

Desiree, what a beautiful poem.  It speaks in a variety of ways at a number of different levels.  It is wonderful way to share how the discovery of your "voice" as a blogger/writer.  Thank you.

What block? After reading your last post you're doing a lot to help someone and you should be proud. You're paying it forward.... and like I believe the poem is saying.....don't forget you.

Beautiful poem and no matter what...we're here to help you along if you need it.

Desiree.... writes block, phooey.  I agree with Sally, that you were able to help someone as you did. That's awesome. Maybe you could write about Sunday night, your post b-day get together, and meeting this great person from AR.... lol

Hey... nice poem also. Believing in yourself and listening to yourself can also be comforting. I still believe my gut feelings are still usually right on and something that I should not listen to.  And the other part that I got from this poem is to keep fighting and don't let others bring you down. At least other voices.  Thanks for sharing this.

Sally - Thank you!!!  Thank you for the call and thank you for asking how I was.   I appreciate that.   In a business where we are such caretakers we do often forget about "us".  It was really sweet of you to ask "how are you?"

I told you before...  don't be surprised to hear from me when I am in you're neck of the woods one day!

Desiree that is a beautiful poem.  I recently realized that I was also taking care of everyone else and I was on the bottom of the proverbial list.  I am trying to make me time and focusing on me more.  I heard a woman on Oprah say "your children will learn to be kind and love others as you have loved them, but if you don't love yourself by making yourself number one, they will never learn to truly love themselves."  That was a light bulb moment for me and since then I have been trying.  It's very hard to change old habits, especially as a mother and as you said in the role we play as caretakers of our clients.  GREAT POST!  Take yourself to a spa for a massage, it always makes things better and you've done something for you!

Dez, that was beautiful.  It makes me realize how much I just need to get out and take a walk sometimes.

I'm glad you babbled.  I think a lot of us needed it.

Sandy - so often we get caught up in the helping of others..... we do forget ourselves... very easy to do and I am more than guilty of it.  It is one of those "dirty old habits" I can't seem to break...    maybe one day... until then there will always be "spa days"

Wow Desiree,

I have never read that poem, but it is certainly inspiring. It reminds me I should be painting again, which is where my true heart lies. Thanks for making yourself do this because in trying to help yourself, you have helped me!  Don't wait for "one day", either. Make it happen.

Desiree -- so many of us give until we have nothing left for ourselves, then we wonder about life ourselves -- we have to be strong for others, as we are for our children, friends and family, but we also have to be strong ourselves, renew ourselves or we'll not be good for anyone.  Thank you for sharing.-
