Motivation in Spokane, Wa
Today four Realtors in our office and I drove two hours to Spokane to hear several motivational speakers. Some were there simply to sell their product, some of those were good, some were too "used car salesman" like.
Then there was, among others, Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, Rick Belluzzo, and Robert Schuller. Each shared some of their own learning experiences, experiences with famous people, and encouraging words.
It was interesting that while they all had their own perspectives, ultimately they shared very similar principles:
The number one thing all of them stressed is: it is all about the people around you, not you.
An affective leader is hard-headed and soft-hearted
Never stop learning - read, listen, think, be aware
Prepare, prepare, prepare - practice, practice, practice
Leave the past behind except to learn from your mistakes or if you need encouragement from past victories
This dry list does not of course, relay the actual experience, which was wonderful and inspiring. It was also good for us to spend the day together learning, laughing, sharing and encouraging. It was refreshing and I would encourage everyone to do something similar every once in awhile.
