Pelosi Wants An Investigation About the New York Mosque - But She Wants to Investigate Those Who Are Against It

By

Yep. Speaker Pelosi jammed he foot into her mouth to the heel again. This time she wants to launch and investigation into those who are speaking out against the proposed Cordoba mosque that might be built within 2 blocks of the former site of the World Trade Center towers.

Apparantly, she is concerned with how the opposition to the mosque is being funded. But there are appears to be no interest on her part on how the mosque is being funded.

It appears that Ms. Pelosi wants to abuse the first ammendment rights of one group but uphold the rights of another. Of course its the free speech rights that she wants to investigate, in this case, while upholding the right to practice religion of the other.

Does it surprise me that she is continually assaulting those who exercise free speech when it is not something she agrees with. Remember those violent tea partiers that she was so afraid of as opposed to left leaning protesters where she declared that she was a "fan of disrupters."

It appears the Ms. Pelosi continues to be constitutionally challanged. But the again, we  knew that from when she was asked about the constitution and health care reform.

Here is a link to a Washington Post article.

Mike, makes you wonder who's paying who.  Why would Pelosi concern herself with a local issue?  That's what Obama claimed it was just last Sunday.

I'm not looking for a fight here.  But, it isn't actually a mosque, per se.  It is a community center....in a really bad part of Manhattan.

I think Republicans can relax now.  Nancy Pelosi has now assured herself that she will no longer be Speaker come next January.  Why would anyone want a Speaker that makes these foolish and politcially stupid remarks?  What opposition is she suggesting should be investigated?  Sarah Palin, Newt Gringrich, Harry Reid or maybe the ADL or the families of 9-11 victims.

You know some time today she will backtrack on the investigation comments and she will look even more ridiculous as she ties herself in knots explaining this. Of course everyone in the Democratic leadership from Pres. Obama on down will be asked about it, completing the fiasco.

Mike,

Trying to silence 1st Amendment Rights by threats and intimidation is a new low, even for Nancy Pelosi. I'm not surprised though...she must be feeling the drumbeats of the November election.

This is nothing new!

Hitler did it in the 30's.

J. Edger Hover did it.

LBJ did it.

Nixon's staff did it.

Clinton just had people eliminated!

Pelosi has NO idea what the founding principles of this country are.  She needs to join the ranks of the unemployed...  But maybe it would be better to investigate her and her husband for ethics violations for about 6 years...  Like Tom DeLay.

She wants to find out who's against it so we find out who's for it.

At least she's consistent...

Tammy - just another way of attacking the messenger instead of addressing the message

Pamela - she needs to believe that she looks concerned and in charge

Susanne - that is not the topic, however, it is a community center with a mosque associated with it

Paul - she does appear to be working towards giving up her position

Rich - but she probably seriously believes that she is in the rignt, and that is what is really disturbing

Bill - that Clinton remark is a bit of over the top speculation

Melissa- it appears that rational logic cannot penetrate her helmet hair style

Hugh - I understand where you are coming from

Lane - to quote her recent response to a question about the constitution "Are you serious?"

Jay - she is that

Mike - I feel you just lost 5 minutes of your life you won't get back by writing this blog.  When I first heard she was doing that, I just moved on.  Life is to short to concern ourselves with such foolish notions.  Park51 has the legal permit, the support of NYC and is going to be built.  Case closed.  People yammering must have things going so well in their lives that they have nothing better to talk about.  And I must assume California has overcome it's budget and education funding woes, thus freeing Pelosi to join this circus.

Tchaka- its people not concerned with the  "foolish notions" and machinations of government that have allowed us to get into this friggin mess. Anytime the speaker of the house wants to assault any constitutional rights, no matter how stupid she appears, we should not just sit back and smile like at an eccentric uncle at someone in government attacking the first ammendment. After all, its a lot of those eccentric uncles who put their hands in places that they do not belong on nieces and nephews.

Tchaka,

At the risk of loosing a couple of minutes of my life, I join Lane and Melissa in challenging you to take a stand on political issues. They want us to be passive. It's how they win. :)

Freedoms of religion, speech and association are getting a workout this year.  The 9-11 mosque and recent court decisions concerning outrageous demonstrations at the funerals of military personnel are examples of recent challenges to our gag reflex.

Unpopular positions can be challenged by public opinion and demonstrations and, in some cases civil suits for damages.  My personal opinion of the mosque issue is that the site is not appropriate and may continue to be controversial.  I hope that negotiations to relocate the facility by agreement of the parties may be successful.

But the heavy hand of government - particularly through criminal law (in the case of funeral demonstrations) is not the answer to these situations.  The developers of the Cordoba House have the legal right to develop private property for legal use and to practice their religion without interference. Whether such development on this site is well advised, given the opposition of the community is a question that should be discussed.  But the right to locate the mosque on the chosen site is protected by traditions which are basic to our Country.

As for Speaker Pelosi - She is an embarrassment as a public official and is a frequent abuser of the power she holds.  I do not see much chance that she will not be re-elected but it is my hope that she will will return to a Congress where the liberal Democrats are the minority party.  I hope that a Republican majority may act with more restraint and discipline than they did in their recent tenure as the majority party.  We face serious problems as a nation and only actual deep cuts in spending will help.  A Republican majority will need the support of moderate Democrats to do what must be done with bi-partisan support.  (good luck with that)

Bill - there are a lot of coincidences in life. In the Foster case, no evidence, just speculation

Steve - that would be great, hope it happens this November

Ted - I do believe that there really is no question of constitutional rights on the location of this mosque/community center. There is pretty close to unanimous agreement that they have the right. But, like you wrote, it is not an appropriate site. The heavy hand of government is currently preventing a church that was destroyed when the WTC towers crashed. In regard to the election, we are in agreement. However, I fear that if Pelosi remains the head of the democrats in the house, she will resort to her tactics after 2006 where she threatened any democratic congressperson with retribution if they worked with republicans on passing any legislation that would make Bush or the republicans look good, regardless of the benefits to the country.

True, Mike - but she was speaker of the house at that time.  I hope that is a mistake we can fix in 72 days.

Ted - actually, I miswrote the date, she did that while she was minority leader as one of the tactics to help regain the house. Time Magazine had a big article about it in 2006 before the election.
