VOTE! It is your right!

Today marks the 90th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to VOTE! Think of all the women who sacrificed so much to ensure that we have the constitutional right to voice our opinions through our actions.

I GET GOOSEBUMPS TO THINK OF ALL THEY GAVE UP FOR US. It is so vital to get out and VOTE!

And if you forgo your right to VOTE, then you are mute to who gets voted in, what gets voted on and the events that may happen because of your lack of action.

It is a right and I'm proud to say that I exercise that right as often as I can!

Wanda I saw this anniversary today marked on Google. Hard to imagine there ever was a time when women didn't vote. Sounds silly nowadays.

Definitely one of the pivotal moments in our country's history!

A historic day indeed!

Voting is a privilege and anyone who doesn't exercise their right to do so has no right to complain about their government.

Wanda, it's sad that in this country it takes so long to correct errors, and then we need politics to do that. It's a very fortunate society we live in that one even has the chance to vote regardless of gender

What women have the right to vote? what's next equal pay....seriously I am one of those that gets upset with people who don't vote, especially the ones who complain and don't vote

Wanda - I'm amazed it took our country so long to pull their head out of the sand and allow women to vote. It should have been a right since the day America was born! Nice job sharing this!

Congratulations, ladies! You've come a long way. Things move slowly in the United States, but they do move, and eventually we'll get to where all people really are created equal and have equal rights under the law.

Nice that someone is proud of thier rights and thankful that voting is one of them!! Can November get here fast enough? I can't wait to vote again!

If I'm not mistaken, there are still places in the world where women cannot vote. Thankfully, we finally got it right; hopefully those other places will too, but I wouldn't bet on it. Congrats, Ladies!

Right on! We are truly blessed that we live in the USA....and now have the right to vote!

First, let me say that having equal access to the ballot box is a milestone...

But, there is one giant mistake in your post. NOBODY has a RIGHT to vote in a federal election. Nobody. There is a list of reasons that your can't be denied the ability to vote, but that is it... and it isn't the same. In the case of a federal election, a fully Constitutional law could be passed that would take away the ability for those to vote that are right handed, under 6 feet tall, under 300 pounds... etc.

I probably just said the least popular thing in your comment stream... but it is a common misconception... Of course, it hasn't been tested in a while in the courts, but the language of the Constitution doesn't support anyone's right to vote...

Lane, I always thought is was a right...personally, I think it is our duty as Americans to VOTE. Is Wikipedia wrong?

The Nineteenth Amendment (Amendment XIX) to the United States Constitution prohibits each state and the federal government from denying any citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920.

Wanda.. I read about this when I opened up Google this morning. Thank you for posting this and reminding us of how far women have come. Thank you too ActiveRain for making it a Feature.

As I recall, there have been a couple of cases (prior to the 19th) that pointed to there not being a right to vote... only conditions for which one couldn't be denied the ability to vote.

There have been a few attempts to codify a right to vote... I think there was one just a couple of years ago.

BTW, it is only wordplay... I'm glad you didn't flip out on me... ;^ )

Wanda I always get under my wifes skin when I tell her the country was never the same after we let women vote and drive. LOL. She gives me one of those looks that could kill. Ninety years, man times flies.

Grateful for the right to vote and so looking forward to November as well.

Voting is SO important, especially when we think about the sacrifices our grandmothers and great grandmothers had to make to bring us to where we are now.

Wanda ~ There actually was very little mention of this on the news! It certainly is something to celebrate. There are still many countries where women cannot vote and do not have equal rights.

Great post to mark the anniversary of this event. Women were actually allowed to vote in Massachusetts in colonial America. :)

A milestone indeed. Now the question is: will this country have a woman President before the 100th anniversary?

Wanda, As with all rights, there comes responsibilities! Get the vote out! Our brave men and women serving in Harms way deserve to know that we do the very least we could do.....VOTE!

You have the power to vote. Don't lose that right by not getting out there and voting. Vote for the people that will do the right thing for the country and not for special interests! Vote and be passionate for your candidate. Make the process work as it's designed and don't allow anyone to manipulate the process!

It seems surreal, Wanda, to think that less than 100 years ago, women were not allowed to have a say in their own destiny. I have four daughters and I can’t imagine them living in a society where their views, needs, and opinions would not be considered, or worse, discounted.

Wanda, great reminder. It's vital that our voices be heard. Now if only we had some better candidates.....

Wanda - thanks for sharing. I did not realize that this was the birthday of the 19th ammendment. Just one detail, the 19th did not grant the right of voting to women. It makes it unlawful for the right to be denied or abridged. A slight but important distinction. The assumption of the constitution is that the rights are already there and it makes it illegal for the government to deny them.

But, I stand with you. Get out and vote, and vote intelligently.

Wanda, this was indeed an historic event. Voting is a privilege and should be exercised regularly. Happy Anniversary!!

November is only a short time away. Do your research and go vote. The founding fathers would not believe the apathy that some people have after all their struggle.

It sure was a historic event. Since we have that power, we should use it. Just a few months off, is the mid-term elections and this is a great time for everyone who is registered to do so!
