There has been a bit of confusion regarding what is acceptable and what is not as far as the creation of new communities.  We must respect each community.  Everyone will always have the ability to post their blog posts to any community they choose.  However, in order to clarify our position on the creation of communities.....

We ask that everyone adhere to the guidelines below:

Adding "The" before a neighborhood which has already been created is not acceptable.  The only time it is acceptable is when you have a community that needs "the" before it.  For example, The Arboretum.  Arboretum would not suffice and the community is known as "The Arboretum". In situations where a dispute arises, we will do our best to give precedence to the person who created the first community, or who had the first sponsorship in place.

Adding "Homes for Sale" or "Real Estate" (or other similar phrases) after a community is not acceptable in order to thwart another members sponsorship of the same community.

If you have misspelled communities, we can now make corrections to spelling. Please email support@activerain.com with a link to the misspelled community page and the correct spelling for that community.

Thank you to everyone who is creating amazing content to fill out these community pages. Your efforts are starting to gain traction in the search engines and resulting in increased traffic. We have no question that as the days, weeks and months go on that these pages will continue to rise in the search engines and reward your efforts with increased visibility and more clients.

Let it Rain!

All of our Summerlin villages start with "the" and "the lakes".

I am seeing the smaller communities getting indexed, so YAY!  Let's get these bigger ones indexed!

Thanks for the clarification.  I am actually sponsoring one that is listed as a neighborhood of Austin, but in reality, it's its (?!) whole own town - totally separate entity.  I need to work with y'all to get that corrected.

Kerrie, is there a valid reason why Rancho Santa Margarita, CA is a subset of Mission Viejo, CA?  Doesn't seem logical to me.

geographic questions about why Mission Viejo is under Rancho San Margarita or vice versa is nothing ActiveRain did.  In 2007 they allowed your peers to add neighborhoods...well and gave points for it. Opportunity. Points.

Hi Kerrie,

Thank you for the update, and we will monitor our little corner of paradise, I must admit it is a little confusing between localism, community, and our boards clasifications of areas (as they are the ones most know to both realtors as well as the general public.

Thanks for the help.

In smaller population rural America, subdivisions, communities within communities are not so common. Need more people to sort out, to distinguish, to show case and make those areas within areas shine, stand out.

"Kerrie, you guys at ActiveRain must laugh at the antics of some of these clowns trying to one-up each other..."

Actually Evelyn, we take this stuff very seriously. We have many members who will give credit to ActiveRain for saving their business. We like to think that when we release a product that it's designed to help our members get business. So I don't think it's clowns trying to one up each other as much as it is people trying their hardest to earn a living in a very challenging real estate market. We take that very serious, helping our members be successful is not something we joke about :-)

This actually stemmed from an email that I answered from a member where I didn't think through my response as clearly as I should have. I told this person that it would be alright if they created a different version of the same community because a different version could potentially get ranked in the search engines for a different keyword phrase. Or if I never said that, that was my intention. Well, it didn't turn out so great as the person who had the sponsorship on the existing community was pretty upset. It's come up a few times here and there and we just wanted to clarify.

If you guys have specific questions about communities in your area, email Kerrie directly and she can help you.

Leslie,

I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations. I'll be calling you right now.

Hey @Mike #37

I hope my community contributions were spelled correctly.  We have one that is Inidan for Indian, which makes me laugh.  We don't have a lot of spelling cleaning up to do but we have suburbs (cities) as communities in the city of Columbus.  Some pretty far out in the boonies cities which are not really even suburbs show up as communities in Columbus.

We have cities that are in two counties (they are) but the individual neighborhoods are not.   Downtown Columbus showed up as a community in Delaware County in Localism. Downtown Columbus is NOT in Delaware County.  I have not really looked at the community pages. Problem is cities that cross county lines.  The communities all show up in both (three?) counties, the neighborhoods (communities) are not in multiple counties.  Our school districts don't match our cities.  It's a mess but it is not AR.
