A true measure of a person's character is what they do when people aren't watching.  Chris Ann Cleland nailed it with this post.

It's what you do when people aren't watching that speaks to your character.  It's how you act when you are not trying to impress, but when you are among friends or hidden from public view.

A lot of our jobs as Realtors is to impress. To get out there and put our best foot forward.  That's when we are trying to get business, right?  But shouldn't we always lead with our best foot forward?  Why would we act differently in public than in private?

We should really try to imagine that our clients, or potential clients are watching us all the time.  Pretend they are just over our shoulder, standing behind us.  Or reading what we post here on Active Rain, for instance, in leaving Members Only comments.  Would it make a difference in what you say?  Or how you reacted to something to which you took exception?

Try to imagine those things you say or do, while hidden from public view, as being exposed to the public.  You have no way to retract them.  How would you feel?  Embarassed?  Small?  Petty?  Or would you feel any trepidation at all?  After all, if you are true to your character and the public matches the private, there would be nothing to worry about.

Remember, it's what you do when people aren't watching that speaks to your character.
