All In Favor of Year-Round School, Raise Your Hand!

That sounds just awful, doesn't it?  That I want my children to be in school all year long?  But the sad, sad fact is that I do.

At the end of last school year, I remember thinking, "Thank you, Lord, for summer vacation!  No more homework.  No more projects.  No more shuttling them here, there, and everywhere."

Now that summer vacation is coming to a close, I find myself thinking, "Thank you, Lord, that school is getting ready to start again!  I can get back onto a William Foster Elementary Schoolschedule.  I won't have to listen to the constant arguing between them all day long.  And, most importantly, I won't have to hear the whine of 'I'm BORED!' anymore."

Maybe what I need is a happy medium.  Instead of having 2 months off during the summer, they would get 2 weeks here and 2 weeks there and so on.  We would have nice little breaks here and there but never long enough for them to start grating on my nerves.  We would have pockets of time when they would be able to relax from the stresses of school (huh??) but not long enough for them to start fighting from bugging each other so much.  We would get to hang together more often during the year but never at the expense of my sanity!

Yes, that's what I need.

And a spa day.  To unwind from the summer.

Yes, that's what I need.

And a grandè carmel latte from Starbucks.  To get me through tomorrow.

Yes, that's what I need.

It's almost time for school.  It's almost time for school.  It's almost time for school.

As one working mom to another, I say AMEN sister. I also say they should lower the age for entrance into school to 16 months (my son is 15 months now), lol. Thanks for sharing. Much success to you...

I support year round school - with more frequent longer breaks.  I enjoy my kids during the summer, but it is nice when they go back.  Having more frequent longer breaks gives more travel opportunities.

I agree I am all for summer vacation until about 4 weeks into it then I'm wondering when they go back. I am looking forward to next week and getting back into my work routine again! Have a great day at the spa!!

Bringing you home...

It would make sense for year round schooling if they would balance it with longer timeouts during the winter time. Who knows how I'll feel when my kids are actually starting school in the next couple years. I'm used to having them underfoot!

Yes, I'm a working mom, too.  No, I wouldn't recommend school year round.  Year round school would be awful. Poor kids...LOL

Renae, having gone through year-round school I don't recommend it.  It's hard on the kids (they don't get a real summer vacation) and there's always periodic breaks during the year that you have to plan for.  But I know what you're saying! :)

Oh Kaera, you feel my pain, don't you? I have the 2 y.o. twins and I'm SO ready for them to go to school, too!

That's what I'm saying, Chris - a little bit at a time, not the whole kit and kiboodle!

The spa is just a dream, Jayla.  Oh how I wish.  For that and a latte.

I'm used to having kids around, too, Lindsey.  We've been at this for 15 years now.  The problem is that now, I'm so fed up with the constant bickering that I can't stand it anymore.  Maybe I'm (grit my teeth) getting too old for this??

I don't know, Lanette.  With breaks more often, they may like it!

Thanks for your understanding, Pamela.  They're driving me insane and I just want the torture to stop! :-)

Renae,

Our schools are now starting in early august and out first of May with fall break, spring break and shorter summer break. I bvelieve I like it much better than the long break during the summer.
