Christian Nelms, District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, was the guest speaker at the Morristown Rotary Club Meeting August 18th, 2010.  Christian Nelms informed the club that the BSA organization has been around now for 100 years.  Christian told the club that the Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most recognized values-based youth development organizations, and he talked a little about how it started. He explained that the BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

100 Years

He explained that the Boy Scouts of America are supported mostly by private money including the United Way and other private contributors, and that it is important for the children to all have an opportunity to participate regardless of ability to pay any fees.  For nearly a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America knows that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Because many Morristown Rotarians were once scouts, those who had been in the program who were present at the meeting came forward at the end of the meeting to recite the oath in unison.

Special thanks to Christian Nelms for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to the club and to Rotarian Ed Arnold for arranging the program.
