Florida Wonders | As seen through the eyes of Realtors and Mortgage Brokers

Florida can be a wonderful place to visit... and a great place to live.  There are things to do for people of all ages from golf to surfing, from theme parks to beaches, from Salsa to Pro Sports.... and everything in between.  Here on ActiveRain we get the chance to read about the wonders within the State of Florida via the Mortgage Brokers and Real Estate Agent members who all share the love of the State.

Cyndee Haydon has a knack for posting great images of the Gulf Coast and its gorgeous beachesChris Griffith posted today a great piece on a local nature reserveColleen Kulikowski has a Facebook question about Disney (who's your favorite character?).

Today I got to experience another wonder of Florida that actually scared more people than it amazed... and it only took me 8 hours to get official word of what happened!!

Today while I was minding my business, there was a huge double BOOM that made all the glass in my house shake.  I have a glass top desk so my entire desk was vibrating!

What had I experienced?  There were neighbors out on the streets looking around trying to figure out if a transformer had blown or what... or if someone else had blown up an RV and small house trying to build their own mega- fireworks (happened last year!)

It was something far less sinister.  What I had felt with so many of my fellow-Floridians was the sonic boom of the Space Shuttle Endeavor broke back into the atmosphere and headed towards another safe landing at Kennedy Space Center!

On the last shuttle mission, there was a twilight liftoff which we could see as a reddish streak in the dusk.

Seeing such amazing feats of technology is an amazing feeling.  Few people get to experience anything related to NASA outside of Florida and Houston.

So the next time you are traveling to Florida, consider a trip to the Space Coast to visit Cape Canaveral or maybe plan a trip around a shuttle launch to get the full effect.   It is definitely worth the effort!

Hi David,

We just returned from Florida last week and had a wonderful time - despite the record breaking temperatures and unbelievable humidity!  This time we got to most of the theme parks including Universal and Islands of Adventure.  Ran out of time for Sea World but we'll catch that another trip.

We went to the Sleuth Dinner Theater and thought that was very entertaining.  Kind of wish we had something like that around here.  The kids had a blast and were ready to get home.  They start school in 2 days so it was a wonderful way to bring our summer to a close.

David - thanks for the mention - I saw the Shuttle landing broadcast here in Clearwater - I can only imagine what it was like to "rock your house" - I was so happy the landing went well - we want to take the boys to Kennedy Space Center this year.

David, it was funny because we where on the phone speaking when you heard that boom.  Where I am I did not hear it.  On the local news this morning that is all they where talking about.

susan - sounds like you all had a great time!

edson - I heard a lot of people missed it... maybe it was louder some places?

cyndee - we needed a good landing for reassurance!  I think since Columbia every mission has had damage and people were holding their breaths!

Matt - very strange - I got a report from someone in Coral Springs that heard it... maybe Reentry was closer to Boca/Delray so its doppler didn't reach you?

Colleen  - yes!  in natural and manmade wonders alike

Tom - next twilight launch, we should all hit the beach with picnic baskets!
