There are several interesting conversations going on about the value, use and implications of the newest Facebook Feature - Places. This is a geo-location tool (think Four Square, Tri Out, or the Geo Locator on Twitter), and with all things Facebook... you probably want to see how your security settings can be changed based upon what you want folks to see.
With Places, YOU can share where you are... but did you know that your FRIENDS could check you into a place too? I'm not always sure I WANT someone else to do that... and if you are in that boat too, here's how you can change your settings
First, go to your Account tab, and click Privacy Settings
Then look at "Places I check in" Obviously, if you are going to check in places, you want people to see it! Doesn't do any good to check in somewhere if no one can see you are there! So you can have everyone on Facebook see you, only your friends, only specific people you know, and friends of friends... you choose.
THEN you need to go to Customize to finish
Once you click on Customize Settings, it will take you to a new page. Again, you need to decide a) who can see you once you check in, and b) if you want to be included in "People Here Now" after you checked in. This screen is also here you can DISABLE people being able to CHECK YOU in!
In a few weeks, we will be having Real Estate BarCamp in Raleigh... and we'll be talking about these tools, if they are really helpful in building business, and if so HOW to use them! I hope to see you there! Here's one of my favorite posts on the whole FB Places (turns out it is all about cash! Who knew?!)
