This is in honor of a long time friend of ours. A woman who, like us, was a successful REALTOR® for a great many years. Her name is Edna.

She was at a crossroads in her life a little more than a year ago. She was burned out in Real Estate and just couldn't find anything for a vocation that she enjoyed. Bonnie had lunch with her one day and heard the frustration and confusion she was experiencing. The child rearing days were long gone, the home was feeling large and empty. Nothing was really bringing fulfillment to her life. Bonnie asked her "Have you ever had a dream?" That one simple question brought a surprising response. "Yes" she said, "I always wanted to be a nurse when I was young, but my mother told me I wasn't smart enough. Lots of people told me I wouldn't be able to do it." Or something to that effect. (Please never speak something like that over someone, it has very damaging results.) So Bonnie told her, God gives us dreams and we should follow them. We will never be disappointed when we follow the dreams He gives us.

Amazingly, she decided to look into the possiblity. At an age when most people are just starting to look forward to retirement coming soon, she decided to follow that dream she had as a young girl. A dream doused by others who discouraged her, a dream that she still carried with her but never thought possible.

It was a long and tough road but just this Thursday, Edna graduated from LPN school. Nurse EdnaShe had to work harder than most of the girls... but she not only finished, she finished very well. Scoring very high on most of her tests. It was a grueling year that was not only hard on her but on her family as well who sacrificed a lot of time spent with her so she could study. But now... Edna is living the fulfillment of her lifelong dream. She is a Licensed Practical Nurse.

I know Bonnie's encouragement was the catalyst but she doesn't want any credit because she only says what she hears The Father saying and He is always for us and on our side. His Word never returns void and when He speaks through us, mountains are moved. The Glory is His alone. Edna is proud of herself now, not welled with pride but filled with the confidence that she was smart enough and worthy of being what she always dreamed of being. We should never let anybody tell us what we can not do.

We are so proud of what you accomplished Edna!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

OMG, Bob & Bonnie, thanks for sharing. I didn't really know where your post was going to go when I clicked on the link based off the title, but I am glad I did. For me, real estate is my dream, but it has been one at many costs, ups and downs, turns and curves. I don't have 'another dream profession' out there, but what I do take from this story is I can use my dream profession to achieve any of my other dreams for me and my family. Kudos to Edna and extra kudos to you for sharing! Much success to you...

How wonderful for Edna to finally achieve her goal! She must feel so empowered! I bet this has changed her life! There is nothing she can not do! As a matter of fact, there is nothing that each and every one of us can not do! Great story. Thanks for sharing this wonderful accomplishment.

Hi Bob,

What a great story! And what a great accomplishment for Edna. It's just a shame someone took that dream away from her when she was young. But then again, wasn't Colonel Sanders in his 60s when he started Kentucky Fired Chicken?

Thanks for sharing.

Bob & Bon!  What an absolutely fantastic story! Give Edna my congratulations.  She is truly an inspiration for us all.  Many of us get so wrapped up in the day to day grind that our dreams take a back seat to reality.  As adults we should dream like we did when we were kids as if anything is possible.

Gretch: You summed it up very well. We should never lose sight of what we dreamed as kids. Jesus shocked many listeners when He told them to approach God like a child. Not childishly, but with the heart of a child... it was offensive to their way of thinking... but if it's good enough for Him, it's good enough for us. Seeing your name reminded me that our Gretchen will be back from N. Ireland next week... can't wait to see her.

Michael: Yes, Col. Sanders  kept dreaming late into life and is proabably the greatest example of what we can achieve at any age, excepting father Abraham, Moses and those greats from long ago...  Geo. Foreman regaining the Heavyweight title at the age of 44 is another huge accomplishment that sticks in my mind also.

Mike: Thanks for reading it. I hope it inspired you.

Nell: He will I'm sure... she has the most amazing personality too. Very genteel and loves the elderly patients. She should be a great nurse.

Stephanie: You are most welcome and I'm honored you took the time to read it. Many Blessings.

Kaera: It's so refreshing to hear of someone living their dreams isn't it? Glad you are following yours as well. I'm sure it makes you very good at what you do. I can't say I ever dreamed of being a REALTOR®, I dreamed of making a living with music. I did that until my Gretchen came along... put it aside and became a REALTOR® that led to purchasing Homes and Land Magazine and maybe God will bring that music dream for me again someday soon... I keep dreaming.

Iiona: Thanks for reading and God Bless your dreams.

Everyone: Keep dreaming big dreams!

Very touching story. Always follow your dreams, when those dreams are from God.

We should always be encouraging towards others, as we can do all things thru Christ who strengthens us.
