17 Comments on National level recognition- Newport, Rhode Island
Kathleen...your photo[s] including the screen background are breathtaking. Very pretty area in which you reside. If ONLY your part of the Ocean area did not get as cold, or colder than MI then perhaps we would not be looking in FL. for a new homestead. LOL
You are a great ambassador too.

Kathleen, the Rhode Island shore line is very beautiful. From the beaches at Westerly to Point Judith to the Newport shoreline, where is was once so appreciated that the early wealthy built those 50 room cottages. Cliff Walk is also special especially with the area around the college of Salve Regina in Newport.
Thanks for sharing
BARB and SAL: I thank you for your kind words and comment. As a Rhoder Islander for over 60 years I have acquired a love of the winters and the beauty of the snow I just do not like to travel during these treacherous days. When the winter get severe that should be the time I do my traveling and spend time with my grandsons in SC.
ED: I love Newport and I have had transactions where several of my clients purchased properties in the Newport area. Many more however in Middletown, where the prices are much lower. As a teenager and college student I would go with friends to 1st and 2nd beach, loved the waves and fine sand. Many time we would study at the beach.
Kathleen, Newport would be a great location for a RainCamp, don't you think???
I would be there in a heart beat if they had one there. I might even make a mini vacation of it :)
Kathleen,
Congratulations on the national recognition. Love the photo you used to illustrate your post. :)

GEORGE, Absolutely I totally agree with you, that Newport is a great place for any function or event. The Rain Camp staff would enjoy the ambiance, too. Let's make it happen.
Steve: thank you for your comment and enjoying the photo. That photo in the foreground is my first born son, John Michael and my 2 grandsons, Nolan and Braydon, when they were visiting RI from SC
Went to Newport about 20 years ago and did the Mansions tour !!! They were amazing !!!!!!!!
Michael: You will need to visit RI again and see some of the other mansions. My favorites are the Breakers and the Rosecliff. December is a great time for touring the mansions, they are beautifully decorated
Kathleen,
Congratulations. Your post is now featured on "Observances and Celebrations." :)
Steve

Lanre: thank you for your kind words and well wishes. Glad you liked this post, You will have to visit RI someday, especially Newport.
Kathleen, Thanks for your post about RI and Newport. I actually live in Middletown and love it there. Its not a bad place when everyday you go to work you have to pass the beach! I live only 1/2 a mile from both 1st and 2nd beach. I use to only be a visitor to Newport till one day I just couldn't leave anymore. I have walked the cliff walk so many times that I couldn't count and every time you think to yourself "What a beautiful place". I tell many of my clients when they looking to buy that they too will get the island fever. Here that is that you won't want to go over the bridges to leave the island for anything unless you make it a full day excursion because when you get back you don't want to leave for awhile again. They never believe me until one day they call me and say to me, "you were right, we haven't left in a month". Forget leaving in the summer time. Though we have all the tourist it is so beautiful here. I have many friends from all over that try and get me to leave. I usually tell them maybe in October. I definitely fly to the warm places in January and February though the water keeps us warmer than others and the snow never lasts for long. I always like coming back! There is nothing like coming home over the Newport bridge!
Noelle, what a fabulous testimony for your love of Newport and living in Middletown, I have past clients, who as you, make the statement that they love the area and rarely travel over the bridge or as you say for an excursion. They tell me occasionally to Providence to see Waterfire. I have many fond memories of spending so much time at the Newport beaches, especially 2nd beach and flying kites at Breton Point. Thank you for your sharing your love in this comment.
I always wondered why they called it an island. Might be a nice localism post for you to explain how the name came about.
