goofy foot

Beach people know that goofy foot is a surf term. I have a surfer family, it started with my husband in Hermosa Beach. 

He taught our sons to surf. Now years later he has taught 3 grandaughters his love of the water.

After they were swimming in the pool he took them out to the ocean and taught them to body surf, now they are on boogie boards in Redondo Beach. 

Its fun to watch for me. I grew up in Texas and Kentucky. I was climbing trees.

Is surfing where skaters and snowboarders got that term?  I am an inland guy, so I've never been surfing, but I ride regular every winter here in Utah!
