My husband and I recently drove to the top of Mt. Evans to participate in our youngest son's engagement celebration. Josh suprised his girlfriend by proposing after they had climbed to the top. While waiting for them to ascend, I hiked close to the parking lot only to encounter a herd of Big Horn Sheep.  I found myself staring down the sheep as I crept closer and closer.  These creatures truly were bothered a bit by my presence and allowed me to get some close-up photographs:

I love how the background in some of these photos looks like it was painted in watercolors.

Congratulations, Emelyn on your son's engagement. What a beautiful place to propose. You're right...some of the backgrounds look like watercolor paintings. Didn't know Colorado looked like that. Like some desert mountain views I've seen in other places. By the way, the larger goat look like he's smiling in your last couple of photos!

You are describing heaven for me . .I love to climb solo and I have seen those sights before. . nothing is more peaceful that being on top and a great idea for popping the question so close to heaven.

Goats or sheep - they are very impressive looking animals. And, what gorgeous photos of the mountains. These goats have an interesting reaction to people. It looks as though they were really staring you down.

These are the most spectacular nature photos I've seen in ages.  Definately "National Geographic" quality in photography and adventure.

My first view of The Rocky Mountains was just west of Colorado Springs and I will never, never forget it.

Before I moved to Nederland many moons ago, I used to live in Lakewood, so it was a bit of nostalgia that made me click on your blog. I wondered what the sheep / goats looked like. Such magnificent photos. I'm looking at their hair and thinking, see, that's what happens when you live outdoors in the Rocky Mountains, there is nobody around to brush your hair. But what I want to know -- what probably everybody else wants to know --  is what happened when she said YES? I presume she said yes, right?

Emelyn, absolutely gorgeous shots.  Definitely the best ones I've seen lately.  Did you notice that one of them needed sheared?  The Colorado mountains are so beautiful.  Congratulations on the engagement!

Amazing animals, how they do it amazes me.  You'd think they would fall wouldn't you.

Emelyn,

I have some photos very similar to these.  They really are amazing and to see so many of them.  I love the scraggley coats as they are getting ready for winter.  Kinda looks like my bad hair days! And congratulations to you and your soon-to-be newest family member.  She is lucky to have you as a Mother-in-law!

Deborah, Bob and Tony - Thank you for your comments. I am glad you like the photos. Deborah - how long has it been since you have been in Colorado?

Michael - It had been close to 15 years since I had been to the top. It is well worth the trip!

Vince - And she truly became light-headed! She was so excited, she could barely breath.

Mara and Morgan - I was amazed at some of the photos I got of these amazing animals. They were jumping over the rocks as if totally unaware to the cliffs below.

Steve - I agree about shooting wildlife...and the thrill of getting a good shot just adds to the excitement and the desire to outdo yourself.  I like shooting birds too!

Paige - I know about their wool....I almost felt close enough to give them a good brushing!

Chris and Tammie - the view was truly breathtaking and I just loved how the background almost looked like a watercolor painting....no photoshop on these pictures.

Lenn and Lyn - Thank you for such wonderful comments.

Elizabeth - I lived in Rollinsville for 13 years before I moved to Lakewood. I still do a lot of ral estate up there. And,she did say yes which a good thing since there were about 30 of us waiting in the parking lot to celebrate!

excellent photos! Mt. Evans is amazing and the fact you were able to get so close is a miracle. Big Horn Sheep are hard to find. You should submit this photos to Channel 9 News and they will post them.
