Are You Ready To Do More Real Estate Sales?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Envelope Real Estate Brokerage Inc

Are you ready to do more real estate sales? I ask this of most sales representatives and you would be surprised from the answers I receive.

I hear the following:

  • I'll be getting a new laptop in 3 weeks and then I'll be up and running.
  • I am still working on getting credits(taking classes) to fulfill my obligatory credits required so when I pass those I'll be able to devote more time to business.
  • It's slow in the summer, I'll be raring to go in the fall
  • We only have one car so I can only show houses at certain times
  • I'm learning how to blog, learning how to use Facebook, twitter, you tube, linked-in, so when I do, I'll be ready for business.
  • I'm still learning how MLS works but when I do, I'll be ready
  • I've been thinking of farming for a year now but I will do it when I get the time
  • Who has time to prospect, I'm busy showing homes. (yes, to unqualified buyers)
  • Insert your excuse here:______________________________________________________________

If you are licensed to sell real estate you should be prepared to do business today. Let people know you are prepared to do business today and you are happy to do business today!

(This does not mean 7 days a week, any hour of the day either)

Carol: Setting hours is a personal thing and depends where you are in your career. When I first started in real estate I had big goals so I sacrificed my time to reach those goals.

I still have large goals but I am a lot better at only working with 5 star buyers and sellers(those who are going to buy or sell in 30 days)

So as a generic answer to your question it would be: What price are you prepared to pay to meet your goals?

All the best Carol

  1. My dog ate my ambition.
  2. How do you get leads?
I no longer try and start the non-self starters. There are either license hangers or producers. People need a dream to do this business. I can't implant one in them.

Dan: I'll write an offer on the back of a piece of cardboard if I have to!

Michele: Only a few can say that!

Roy: I have gone to listing presentations where the other agent has left a 4" thick binder of 'stuff' and blah blah blah. Their only mistake was not asking to list the house today, right now, this moment.

J. Philip:

You are so correct and if you do not have goals and stick to them, business will not come to you.

Ty - in today's world there is always something new to do or learn and you have to do them to keep up. ..... but you also have to list and sell to survive ..... with 37 years behind me I realized a long long time ago that if you wait till you are 'ready' you never will be

Hi Ty ~ We've got a bunch of not-going-to-get-outta-the-gate types right now and I keep wondering - why bother? What also kills me is the agents come October or November who decide they've "made enough" so why expend any effort until spring. That's one of the reasons I'm a fan of really big goals - make your goal too easy and you tend to slack off.

Ty,

Some people are never ready, and they will go from one excuse to another.

Ty,

Some modest degree of success is not good. This results in many part time agents who are barely getting by.

I think Brian that success is relative. What success means to you and I can be a totally different meaning for others.

I agree that agents who are barely getting by should either leave or make a committment to learn how to get business.

Not in the buisness as long as some of you.  But what I do know is you have to be failthfully generating more leads, even when you have clients signed you need to be laying the ground work for the next.

Connie: With that attitude you will be quite successful in real estate, do not let business get in the way of generating leads. Kudos to you!

I once had a boss whose favorite sentence was "That's just an excuse." He wasn't demanding, but he wanted us to keep him informed of our progress, where we were, when we'd be back, etc.

I guess it is easy to come up with excuses, when there is no passion to get on with the business.
