Speechless August Sunday: Upper Broadway, Upper West Side, Manhattan

By

Upper Broadway, Upper West Side, Manhattan, New York, NY

Today is actually a nasty rainy summer day. I took this photo a couple of days ago.

The other day was a perfect clear August morning on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Enjoy the rest of the summer because in just a few months this picture will look like this.

I like NY city to visit, but I'd never want to live there.

Too many people, noise, things going on. It's exhausting to get though a day.

Mitchell... I can look at this photo all day.  I can envision people walking along the streets, the smells of the street vendors... and the echoing off the buildings of the cars going by.  Thank you for making my day better.

It's a great place to visit, but...  I like it in the south where our ratio of trees to buildings is the opposite of what you show in your first pic.

What a great view.  It's different from what I'm used to seeing in photos of New York.

Call me crazy but I love the snow, then again I am from NY originally.  Your picture may make some cringe but I sigh, then again, I currently in Arizona, one of the hottest places on earth....This is our winter.  Notice all the snow! Great post Mitchell.

What a beautiful photo!  I'm surprised with ALL of the details that are popping up in front of me.  You did a fabulous job.  I would love to hang out in Manhattan for a few weeks.  Seems like such an exciting place to live and you just brought it to life for us all :)

Kat, You will have to come visit. I've been to Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains. The only place I've ever skied and I got a tan.

Vince, Thanks, You gotta come again soon.

Rene, Thanks, The planes often circle over NY at a low altitude because of air traffic. It looks like your right on top of Manhattan island.

Patricia, When I posted the picture, I thought it looked so quiet and peaceful, no people around. Perception! Lol.

Lenn, Thanks, I took picture because I needed a new header pic for my outside blog, I'm glad I posted it on activerain.

Valerie, You're welcome! I was going to add music "Sidewalks of New York", Guess I didn't need to.

Patsy, We're planting a MillionTreesNYC by 2017. Free trees are being planted on sidewalks in front of homes, apartments and businesses.

Lisa and Robert, Thanks, My first Sunday off all month and it's dreary. LOL we need our water.

Christine, It's shot from a residential neighborhood, the Upper West Side. Most photos of New York are usually of the midtown skyline.

Stephen, Great picture. I lived in California and remember having beautiful 80 degree days on Christmas. I like your icicles and palm trees.

Mitchell, architectural photos are some of my favorites and some of the best are with my iPhone! Great shot - here's a photo of downtown Jax taken with my iPhone. They're great fun, aren't they? Love that you have taken two exactly the same angle shots, one winter and one summer. Most people move the camera when they take these shots but yours are consistent and great!

Hi Mitchell...Great Photo that gives a different perspective of what we usually see.  Much more descriptive...even the winter one.

Though it does look very interesting, New York is not on my bucket at this time...just not much of a big city guy...so you and Elizabeth have fun without me  :)

Around West 86th or 87th?  I know the area but the exact street I'm not sure of.  Where did you take the photo from - what floor?

Sharon, I like architecural shots. Love your beach shot. I didn't even realize it was the same shot until I saw the winter picture. I just stood in the same location on my roof deck.

Mike, Thanks for the comment. You can be virtual.

Ruthmarie, Exactly! My building is on Broadway between 86th and 87th. Takes up the whole block. Photo taken from the 23rd floor. The zoning law only allows up to 20 story buildings between 72nd and 96th Streets on the Upper West Side, but the developer of my building built a subway entrance/station at 87th Street in exchange the city let him build 3 extra floors.

Hi Mitchell -- I looked at both photos and (being from Cleveland) -- I'm with you that the 1st picture is much better! :)  I love looking at my snowblower in the garage, but then again, the lawnmower is right next to it! :)
