McKinley Park - A Classic Sacramento Treasure

McKinley Park
(Slide show had 12 images)

East Sacramento has a treasure of trees that lend themselves to Sacramento's identity as the City of Trees.  Many of the classic vintage homes in the area also add to the patina of the community.

A special spot in the midst of all this, is McKinley Park - 31.9 acres that include a pond, large public swimming pool, jogging trails, the Clunie Clubhouse and McKinley Library.  The art-deco styled building dates to 1936, and has maintained it original walnut paneling, marble fireplace and Strickley furnishings.

At the East end of the park, the 1.5-acre rose garden, created in 1928, features more than 1,000 rose bushes, tree roses, and blooming annuals. Each year, new award-winning varieties are added to the garden tapestry.  The site is a favorite for outdoor weddings This 1.5-acre garden, created in 1928, features more than 1,000 rose bushes, tree roses, and blooming annuals. New award-winning varieties are planted in the garden each year.  The site is a Sacramento favorite for weddings and outdoor seasonal events. For rental information call (916) 808-6060 or see Online Permits.

The address of McKinley Park is 601 Alhambra Boulevard, Sacramento 95816.  Weblinks to specific site locations in the park follow here:

Myrl,

Looks like a little piece of paradise in the midst of suburbia. Lets hope the budget hawks of California don't come sniffing around.

Richard - Many of the local parks have suffered hard times because of state budget woes.  In recent years, the state had tapped local resources for added revenue.  Add to that Sacramento's own budget problems and you can begin to see the problem.  It is imperitive that we get people back to work, so tax revenue increases to support valuable resources such as these!  The focus needs to be JOBS - JOBS - JOBS!

Myrl - Great looking flowers. I agree that jobs are most important right now. We are facing a lot of layoffs here on Florida's Space Coast and tax revenues will go down even further. Fortunately, we still have tourism.

John - Tourism can be a godsend in some areas!  We have some of that here in Sacramento, which helps to a degree!

Marchel - Thank you!  I'm glad you liked them!  The only downside to those slideshows is the application to create them changes hi-res photographs to low-res .gif files when it compresses the animation.  I lose quality.  But I still enjoy working with the application anyway.

Ann - Some of those roses were really pleasing to the eye.  I especially liked some of the deep red ones, and the orange ones.  I'm glad you enjoyed the photos!

Hi Myrl, I know how much everyone loves your Paint Pro Sideshow. I  doubt there has ever been one presentation when you weren't asked about it. What you bring forth is always so eye pleasing, it matters little about any lost resolution. The Sacramento parks, trees and flowers should be an inspiration to all the communities here in Southern Cal.

William - The strange thing about my using PaintShop Pro's Animation Wizard to create slide shows, is that wasn't the original intention of the software.  I learned to use the software while working for a software development company, and creating little animations for certain projects.  It wasn't until I began blogging here on ActiveRain that I woke up in the middle of the night, and said, "I wonder."

Great photos as usual Myrl.  Someday I'd like to take the camera out and not take pictures of houses.  Would be very refreshing.

Jack and Izzy - I can imagine you would take some pretty good photos of other subjects.  You always post great pictures of your unusual discoveries while doing home inspections.

Barbara Jo - I feel really lucky living in Sacramento.  In addition to our own attractions, we're nestled in the valley between San Francisco, Napa Wine Country, California Gold Country and Lake Tahoe.  All within a 100 mile radius.

Myrl,

Those photos took my breath away.  There is little more beautiful than that which is found in nature.  What camera setting do you use for the flowers?  It's perfect.
