Hibiscus flowers are amazing. Fully open and facing the sun they have the aspect of an umbrella or fancy satellite dish. Closed, they're tightly shut revealing nothing of their architectural form that will emerge. This shot is a halfway view taken a few hours before the hibiscus is fully open.
Thanks for the pic.
Plants are amazing each with their own different stages.
Much like people some come out in the sun others go in till it's less hot
Enjoy the day
Great photo, I love the hibiscus flower it's here today and gone tomorrow, but there's always another one opening up as one is dying. Kind of like all life, so we need to appreciate everyone and everything every day..
This is what the hibiscus will look like when it is fully open. I hadn't noticed the resemblence to a honey dispenser until I saw the shadow of the stamen cast on the petal.
Mother Nature wins every time with elegance and beauty. thanks for the beautiful pics.
Dave,
Wow what synchronicity. The first thing I did this morning was go outside and look at my hibiscus, same exact colors. It has so many bloom sin various states of opening and closing. They are so radiant. Thanks for sharing this shot.
Ron & Alexandra - It's hard to ignore the hibiscus this time of year. They are almost shouting for attention and everything from humans to bees to hummingbirds and butterflies is paying attention.
Great shot and these plants are so beautiful. There a lot of them in yards throughout our little town.
Doug and Gloria - Thanks for the question. What has happened to the hibiscus is a heart warming story of loyal hummingbirds. We have a couple dozen humjmingbirds that we feed year round. Most migrate, but some stay behind. The hibiscus was getting a problem with "scale" and the leaves were getting malformed. Our hummers saw the problem and to thank us for our delicious food, they started eating the scale off the hummingbird. Weeks later and the plant is perfect, the scale is gone, and we are thankful we were smart enough to feed our pest control hummingbirds. So, if insects start bothering our plants, I'm going to call in the birds.
Dave, What a great story! You are lucky to have witnessed such care by your sojourning hummingbirds. They are such amazing birds.
Hope you don't mind that I attach a link to a video I managed to capture.
Gloria
