Last month I wrote a warning about "slamming." They're unauthorized charges on your phone bills, placed there by 3rd party providers.
Apparently some people like the covenience of paying just one bill, so let Internet providers, cable companies, etc. add their charges to their phone bills. I've never done that.
Last month our phone company changed from Verizon to Frontier, so when my bill was $15 higher than expected I thought perhaps it was a rate increase. No, it was a "slam" charge of $14.97 from a company called Email Bundle.
Since I have no idea who that is, I called Frontier. They said I had been slammed and would remove the charge. They also said they would place a block on my account so that it couldn't happen again. Meanwhile, I sent an email to email bundle... because they don't answer their phone.
They wrote back and assured me that they would send a credit and would discontinue my service immediately. What service??
Anyway, I wrongly assumed that was the end of it. Until I opened my new phone bill last night.
I got the credit from last month... and a brand new charge from email bundle. I thought perhaps it was a date problem. But no, the "block" was supposedly put on my account on 7-26, and the new charge is for 7-29.
I really dislike people / companies who force me to spend a couple of hours every month dealing with their illegal behavior.
Grrrr....
UPDATE:
I just got off the phone with Email Bundle. They say "I" filled out an online form at some website I've never heard of. Whoever did this had almost all of my information right... except the city where I was born.
Kinda spooky that someone would use my name, address, phone number, and email address to order something that they could not use unless they were using my email address.
I'm wondering if it boils down to an email bundle affiliate trying to increase their sales by "selling" to people whose information can be found on line.
Crooks are doing everything they can these days to earn a dishonest buck...
