I usually start my day with a dog walk! So naturally I always think to myself, where are the best off leash swimming areas?
One of the first ones that come to mind is the Dallas Road Beach! Above the beach there are excellent walking trails as well as wide open fields that offer generous space even for the most discerning canine & toddler, at the shoreline the beach offers a rugged yet accommodating walk!
First thing one can do before heading out for Dallas Road Beach is check out this cool webcam that is updated every 15 minutes! It is a cool site with loads of beaches on its radar.. Beach webcam
For those of you who don't know this area it is at mile 1 of the Trans Canada Highway & is part of Beacon Hill Park on the edge of James Bay & Fairfield. Needless to say it is accessible from many routes.. here is a map of the Dallas Road Beach for those of you who are new to Victoria.
There are a number of micro beaches at the Dallas Road Beach, these are named:
- Clover point
- Finlayson Point
- Beacon Hill
Now I am probably missing some of them, so if I have done so don't hesitate to add them in the comments section of this blog!
The climate here is such that even in the short days of February I have taken my daughter & pup to the Dallas Road Beach to enjoy the few hours of sun that we do get. The rolled stones on the beach hold the suns warmth so much that we can't resist lying down and soaking up the warm rays of winter
So if you are visiting this city or haven't been to Dallas Road Beach recently, why not take a trip down the beach to enjoy the ocean, rocks and people watching....maybe we'll see ya there!
