Woodbridge Ontario -Sergio's No Limit 7K Walk/Run - I ran it and lived to tell the tale...

Alina joins the rain!!!

Awe! What a glorious way to start a new exercise plan. Heavy rains followed the group out of the park and onto the streets of Woodbridge, Ontario. Even though I selected a scenic route lined with mature trees adjacent to the famous Toronto Board of Trade Golf and Country Club on one side, and the Boyd Conservation Centre on the other, the weather made it a daunting challenge.

Alina Spektor, along with about 100 other brave souls, met us for the days' events in a relentless pursuit to raise awareness and funding for cancer research. Her attendance was driven by her own experience with the loss of a family member a few years back.

Shortly upon leaving the rainy day fundraiser, she entered another soaking endeavourer; this one would start her blogging life here on Active Rain. She posted her first message just hours after her Sunday run and I encourage all to introduce themselves to this lovely soul, fellow Realtor, and newbie blogger.

Enjoy her story.

It might have not been a good idea to go out the night before a 7K run... Not Alina Spektor's wisest decision...

However, after a fresh cup of coffee, bright and early in the morning, I made it to "Doctor McLean Park" in Woodbridge, and I was on time!!!

 Alina Spektor Alberto Pintos

I met up with 2 Realtors from my office in Vaughan, Re/Max Premier, we threw on our shirts and we were on our way through the streets of Woodbridge.

Did I mention it was raining???  No... Noah's Arc raining!!! I actually had to bring my umbrella!!! That was quite the site jogging down Islington.  If a big wind had come up I would've been off like Mary Poppins and finished the race in first place!!!

All I kept thinking was it was for such a great cause, raising funds for prostate cancer research for Sunnybrook Hospital.

The event was very well organized, there was lots of food and refreshments and even dessert...mmmm... after the 7K run I didn't even feel guilty having cake!

Next year I'll be back at Sergio Di Pinto's No Speed Limit 7K Walk/Run for SUUUUUREEEE! If you would like to make a contribution, please check out his post here.

Gee Michele,

I'm impressed! I could only arrange a strong downpour. Your organizers must have had some major connections to pull that off... LOL.

Good for you Michelle, and goes to show that a good cause can bring out the best in us.... keep giving back!

Hey Roger,

Thanks so much... I will do my own post on the event but wanted to pay tribute to this amazing young lady first.

The support system was small in number but big on heart and loyalty. (you know what that's like!!)

Keep well my friend.

Sergio - Thanks for the introduction - I will go and say hello to Alina - she sounds like lots of fun!  As for the rain, I'm afraid to say that in our fair city, we would have been surprised to not have rain.  I actually prefer running in the rain - I find it keeps me cooled down.  Of course, it may also be because, having been born and raised in Vancouver, I was born with webbed feet and and oily skin that stops rain from sinking in.  Quack, quack!  Your event sounds amazing - can't wait to read more.

I'm with you Michelle,

A good rain during summer months is wonderful. I enjoy the feeling of drying off in a few minutes due to the body heat after the run. I was more concerned with the uninitiated participants but they all braved the conditions. Hooray for them!!! I appreciate the comments and support for Alina....

Take care and hug Digby for me...

Sergio:  I have not been back toy your blog in awhile, wish I had.  I would have come up for your event.  I am only a short drive away in Buffalo. My mother died of cancer 8 years ago and I always love to help out where I can to raise money and find a cure.

Hi Lee ANn,

That's a sweet gesture... Can I keep you in mind for next year?

It went really well on Sunday and we raised some cash too. I'm truly sorry for your loss and I know that your commitment is at a personal level. Losing someone so close to you is very painful. I will do what I can to chip in for a cure. The memories never end....

God Bless,
Sergio
