Tribute to Laurie Manny

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

Laurie Manny  was one of the first ActiveRain members to pick up the phone and call me when I wanted to know about titles, tags and keywords.

Laurie Manny was one of the founding members on ActiveRain that moderated in its infancy and gave a helping hand whenever needed.

Laurie Manny was still a great friend carried over to Facebook where I can chat with my AR friends and most recently she, Thesa Chambers and I were going back and forth on the Nikon P100 camera that I ended up buying because of their feedback.

Laurie Manny was loved and will be greatly missed.

Thanks much Sally for doing this one. Am totally bummed by her loss. I read the FB post she last did about being so sick. But thought it was a passing thing. Think she would be touched by all that she meant to us. More will be revealed, huh?

I was shocked by the news in the Inman blast and can't believe Laurie is gone.  What a shocking loss to our community.  She will live on in her blogs as a pillar of our community, an expert in her field, and a well respected mentor.  Very nice tribute, Sally. ...tears...

Sally - What a tragedy.  It breaks my heart to hear that she was so ill and yet afraid to go to the ER because she lacked medical insurance.  I didn't know her well, so it is not a personal loss for me, but I'm sorry for your loss as you did know her well.  And, even though I didn't know her well, I do feel the loss of her in our AR community.

Getting you to your next with a zero failure rate!

After being her partner...I got to know her well.  I am still in shock and I know it will take a long time to sink in and make any sort of sense to me.  People have said she was too young.  She was WAY too young!  She was 52!  She had so much more to do!  She kept talking about retiring so she could just relax and enjoy some much needed time off.  She never got to do that...but now she can finally rest! I am glad people are paying tribute!  I know she was an integral part of AR.  She blessed a lot of lives with her talent and her amazing knowledge!

What a complete tragedy. In a way, this stems from NAR's #1 failure: it's inability or lack of desire to put together a REAL health insurance plan for its members. We are not NAR employees, so I am not saying NAR has to participate in the monthly premium costs we must bear, of course. But with a membership of 1.2 million members + their families, we deserve a negotiated group rate for major medical. What insurance company wouldn't entertain that many new members under one umbrella?  Why hasn't this happened?  Politics? Well, politics + medical care issues suck. We need real insurance, not the fake, flimsy thing NAR is offering now. Like every third sentence in the brochure it reminds you that it's not insurance.

Laurie was a fully functioning, full time, active and vibrant member of our community but couldn't afford health insurance is my guess. Not so surprising.  It's hundreds and hundreds of dollars a month to purchase a retail plan for one person. I am so heartbroken over this.

NAR should use this sad event as a major wake-up call and get its act together and use its massive lobby muscle and POWER in numbers for something beneficial like negotiated group insurance.  It's not until 2014 that any health insurance reform will affect real estate agents.  So we need something NOW, in memory of Laurie. She deserved affordable insurance.

My philosophy and super hot button is that health insurance is a right, not a privilege and there isn't a more telling time than now to send that message to our NAR leaders. Something! Anything! Rest in peace, Laurie. You will clearly not be forgotten.
