What Kind Of Camera Do You Use?

By
Home Inspector with Cape Coral Florida

As a home inspector I take a lot of photos, some illustrate a defect, other for archival purposes. My cameras are in some of the dirtiest attics crawlspaces imaginable, not to mention the sand from a beach home. Needless to say I burn through cameras to the tune of 1 every 60-90 days.

I've tried the most expensive to the cheapest. I gave up on the super expensive because I found myself worried about dropping the camera while on a ladder, roof, or using it with a rain cloud in site.

Lately, I've settled for the Nikon Coolpix series. The cost is anywhere from $150. - $300. and they seem to last the longest... about 90 days. I calculate I take approximately 1300 pictures a month. Towards the end of the life of the camera, the on/off button works intermittently, and I know it's time for a new camera.

So, what kind of camera do you use? ....I'm in the market for a new one, and thinking of switching.

I use a Nikon L110.  It works great and can take videos too if need be.

Jay, in that same price range try the Fuji S1500.  Takes great pictures at 10x zoom or within 5/8 of an inch.  I get about a year out of them----I average about 4500 pictures a month.

I use 3. A Cannon point and shoot, a Kodak as a back up, and my Nikon dSLR with either a 300 or 500mm for steep or wet roofs. The Cannon I picked up at Wal Mart for about $150, the Kodak was about the same, my dSLR is priceless...

I'm with you Jay, Cool Pix works for me. The lens cover gets sticky pretty fast though.

Hi Jay ~ I've had two Canon PowerShots and loved them.  I would be bummed if a camera only lasted three months.  I take a lot of shots but probably not as many as you.
