(Day 1 of the 5000-point challenge in ActiveRain.)
Some of you noticed I simply dropped out of sight for most of last week. For the "Out and About" crowd, this post mostly has to do with my mini-vacation to China. China? Well, to make a long story even longer yet, I was able to join my wife on her business trip and I just mostly had to pay for food. It was a trip to Shanghai and Suzhou.
Interestingly enough, after just a few days there, it seems to me like this was the equivalent of perhaps Vancouver, Los Angeles, or maybe even New York, in terms of the living conditions and the city life. Most folks in these two cities live in apartments and condos, not too many single-family homes. Where do they live? Where do they go? It had my curiousity. I read the Shanghai Daily and checked the Real Estate section and got an idea of what goes for what around there. Try maybe $2000 to $4000 a month for a 1000 square foot apartment.... (7 RMB Yuan = about $1US.)
But the other real reason for going was the International Exposition, this year held in Shanghai. We only there for maybe five hours, but mostly only because it was screaming hot and the lines were long. Saw lots, though, in a short time, but took about 400 pictures over the whole visit. Would have loved to see the U.K. Pavillion inside, but the lines were 3 hours long.
The trip was way short, considering the 15-hour direct flight from Detroit to Shanghai, but it was worth it.
