Is Your Pet Sabotaging You from Selling Your Home? It’s just not realistic to think you can relocate your precious pets while you’re home is on the market, but here are some tips to stop sabotaging your showings. As you leave the house everyday or get ready for that showing appointment follow these tips…

Mountain Living Team - Murphy, NC

Keep cat litter boxes and puppy pads impeccably clean and out of sight

Keep all pet toys, kitty condos and feeding bowls picked up and put away

Make sure carpets and floors are cleaned of any stains

Mist the carpets and fabrics with Febreze, it freshens the air with a perfume smell. Air freshener sprays can affect people with allergies and just smell like you’re covering up something.

Put your pet in their carrier out in the garage or in an out of the way corner of a room. Better yet, load them up for a trip to the park.

Some people just aren’t pet lovers and others are fearful or distracted by animals. Doing these quick and easy steps could be the difference in having a great showing and getting an offer!

The pet odor is a definite downer!

I agree, pets are not an asset when selling your home.

Good advice.  Walking into a home that smells like pets is a big turn off to many buyers.

This issue is always a challenge and is often one of the first things I address with potential clients.  People often don't notice the odor in their home and they don't understand why everyone won't be charmed by Fido's interest in tossing a ball.

Our job is to educate them and let them evaluate the situation realistically. Thanks for the post!

During extreme heat or cold, be sure the pet carrier is located in a climate controlled area. You'd be surprized at how many pet lovers out there will be extremely offended by a pet being kenneled in a hot garage. Some might even file abuse reports on an owner who leaves pets in an unventilated garage.

Dealing with pets during the sale of a home is a big issue for many.  Moving them out is usually not an option.

The information is great and the puppy in the picture looks like my son's JRT, Luna, who is also addicted to tennis balls!

You shouldn't have put such an adorable picture up.  I would want to buy him with the house.  But seriously, pets ARE a distraction when showing homes.

Hi Carol & Lee, Yes they can be distracting and sometimes see strangers as an opportunity to escape!
