I had the pleasure yesterday of spending the day with Waldo Cabrera, Executive Producer from Verizon FiOS1 - My Long Island TV. Waldo was in the area filming a series of stories about Eastern Long Island and wanted the grand tour of Westhampton Beach for a future segment. Following his morning shoot with a Remsenburg woman starting her new bee farm and a subsequent shoot with Sugar Sugar on Main Street in Westhampton for a clip on Long Island shops offering homemade candy, cakes and sweets, Waldo met me for the grand tour down Main Street in the Village of Westhampton Beach.
We started off at about 3 in the afternoon across the street from the Westhampton Beach Performing Art Center with the huge marquee over my shoulder and made our rounds down the street. We ended up stopping in and chatting on video with several shop owners, local retailers, restauranteurs and diners for a few minute letting them tell us about their businesses and offerings. It was an interesting opportunity to promote our community as a year-round destination on Eastern Long Island.
We ended up visiting and filming with Westhampton T-Shirts, O'Suzanna, Mustique, Beach Bakery, Books & Books Westhampton Beach, Lynne's Cards & Gifts and Starr Boggs. Walking along the street we came across two volunteers from Bide-a-wee that were socializing one of their dogs available for adoption at the Westhampton facility.
The day ended 6 hours later with filming on the Village Green during the Concert on the Green Summer Music Series under the gazebo. Mary Mancini & Mario Tocca along with their full band were singing this evening and gave a show-stop performance. An audience of nearly 500 people on blankets and lawn chairs was the perfect setting of showing what a vibrant cultural community Westhampton be actually is.
After editing, the segments will be available on Verizon FiOS1 on My Long Island TV in the western portion of Long Island, on their website, and on the Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce website at www.westhamptonchamber.com It was a great opportunity to promote our beautiful community. I'll post a link to the segment when it is available and airs.
