Not an emergency but nonetheless, important help requested.
We all have a past... mine was as a musician. From the time I got out of school until our first daughter came along in 1989, I made my living playing guitar and singing with all kinds of bands. Starting in High School in Battle of the Bands to around the country in travel bands, to freelancing in Atlantic City Casinos in better times.
Tonight I'm going back into that realm as a substitute for an old friend who had a death in the family. Chip asked me if I could fill in for him at a club in town tonight. This isn't any ordinary gig. Here's the whole story....
Last week I wrote about our friend of over 30 years, Edna graduating from LPN school. Her husband Chip and I met long ago as two struggling guitarists who just happened to live next to one another in our first apartments way back in 1980-1981. I was living with Bonnie, and soon married, He was living with Edna and shortly after we were married, they wed as well. Our friendship has gone through a lot of changes... the last being us coming to the Lord. They, as of yet, have not come along on this ride. We actually helped to start a band around 1991 together and within a couple of years, I left for another regional act that had better gigs. We were just part time and regional at this point in our lives, just playing on weekends.
On this past Saturday, we were at a wedding and found out another old musician friend's dad was in Hospice at the age of 92. She happens to be the drummer for the band that Chip plays with. We got to visit her dad before his passing this past week and pray with him. We would not have heard until after the fact because we are not hooked up to Facebook and that is how most people seem to communicate these days.
Then Chip called and asked if I could fill in this Friday night for him. All crazy coincidences? I think not, obviously God wants me to be there for her at this time. She is an old entertainer at heart and knows, "The show must go on." We have all had a time when we had to go on through tough circumstances.
So please pray for me that I say only what the Father wants me to say and do only what He wants me to do to share Jesus with her and all the others there tonight. I could sure use some more intercessors lifting me up as well because I have no time to re-learn these songs and it will just be pure memory and the Holy Spirit guiding me. Thanks saints. May God Bless you all.
