12 most persuasive words in communication per Yale University

How are we going to get the Sex in?  I noticed your list was 14 not 12, Did you add the Free and the Sex? :)

Funny how we all shy away from #14, sexy. I think you can use the word in concept, if not the actual word. I saw something similar on the most popular Facebook topics where sex was #1 and "home and garden" was in the bottom 5. Owning a handyman business, I went ouch.

The challenge though is to come up with fun topics, fun projects, etc ... related to the house to make it almost as much fun.

Although I am not sure any English teacher would approve, I think I used them all in one long run-on sentence.

I used to be a writer in the marketing dept. of a large corporation and we had a one day seminar once where the instructor pointed out that we should gear everything towards the use of you, your...making it more personal for the client and instead of telling them how great we...putting ourselves in their shoes and let them know how what you're doing will benefit them. As someone said earlier he, "it's all about them." I think sexy house, an example someone gave earlier, is probably the best use of the word sex.

I'm not buying it.  Other than the you/your theory of writing FOR the buyer.

When writing a sales letter, or any kind of marketing material, the word "You" at the beginning generates a whole lot more interest than any form of the word "I."

"Discovery" is probably used more to advertise health products than homes, but a variation of the word could work. "Come discover ...(something wonderful about the home, the convenient location, or ?)"

Thanks for this list.  Someone commented, "That's quite a sales pitch-if it works", then asked the question, "Does it work for you.  I think that kind of misses the point.  Words can be effective even when their use is for a negative or non-constructive purpose.  Which words you use and how you deliver them will determine their sucess in generating your desired goal-which for most of us is more quality business.
