91 Comments on IF YOUR HEART AINT IN IT........WHY ARE YOU DOING IT...?
Kristina...there is enough for everyone. When people want more than their share, they are spiritually poor. It stops when they stop coming from scarcity. That is why I do not understand what a BILLIONAIRE is or does....it should actually mean you are a failure rather than a success. You should be giving it away as quick as you can make-it. Failure to do so says a lot about you. Egomania at its finest......10 cents or 10 billion, we all die zero balance.......you speak of serving others. Now, you are desiring to be in the company of the 'greats". thank you for your meaningful visit today...
Richie--THis is excellent. I don't care if you're serving coffee or selling houses. Do what you love or don't do it.
Good podst Rich. You see it all over the place. people who are just going through the motions. But, people may just be trapped and do what they have to do to support themselves. Whatever you do in life do it to the best of your ability and be the best whatever it is you are doing.
Erica..checks in and sums it up in 8 words...."Do what you love or don't do it". I am reminded of the man who shined shoes. He not only made yur shoes come alive, but he offered you conversation, opinons, listened as you gave yours and more than just shoes got cleaned that day. The quality of life begins with what we put into it........Erica.....continue to do great things up there in Pottsville PA
Empire Home Mortgage......you make good sense and a valid point....Look, if I had to start all over again, I could be bitter and do it or...... be grateful for another chance and do it....that is the way I look at every day. It is a chance to improve on my daily performance...my contribution. I try to give more than I take. I actually monitor it. Today, I made a grumpy bored, tired, and angry middle aged man, who is stuck in a place that you wouldn't stand in line to work at..... laugh, not once or twice, but several times. I went into his world and...... brought him back out of his dumps. Hours later he called me and he ended up thanking me after our business was concluded. Oh, make hay while the sun shines........thank you
Before we had many people in the business for the money. It seems in my market those agents are getting weeded out with the market decline. I have always said, " I love buyers and sellers, it is "some" agents that make my job less than joyfull". Thank you for reminding all of us that is what we should be striving for.
Dawnita...(little dawn) I'll bet there is a story there.......you see those agents that you describe supply two purposes. First, they provide the contrast so that you may not do what they do. Perhaps they will see themselves one day by following your example.. Second, we are those agents. We all took turns. We fall into ruts and despair, we lose track of what is important and the line between WANT & need GETS BLURRED. There are of course some that shouldn't be in the biz and the sooner they find that out, the better for all.....I agree with you.....Dawnitia....let's continue to remind each other......thank you
Yep Richie, life is WAY TOO SHORT to not enjoy or be passionate about what you do for a living. There are too many options to explore to settle on something you dislike!
yea Kent.....so easy to fall into things you don't like for a myriad of reasons. I remember I used to go out to eat at places I didn't like just to accommodate another person. One day, I simply said that unless we find something we both like, I am not having a good time......Well we did and I did. I am willing to compromise, but to give it all up...? BTW, when I see passion in play on another human being, it is very attractive to behold. I look for it wherever I go.......best to you Kent....
It is both sad and amazing that so many people get up in the morning hating the thought of having to go to work. I always remember a Les Brown tape... he says the majority of people have their first heart attack around 8 o'clock on a Monday morning... and then he laughs that infectious laugh and says "People are just dying to get to work."
But of course it isn't funny.
All I can think is that a person gets stuck in a job and can't figure out how to get out and do something better. Driven by fear - and debt.
I'm one of the lucky ones... I love what I do. And for that, I give thanks every day.
Marte...you express the concept of the post exceptionally. I am respectful of your phrase....."Driven by fear and debt". These are the wrong motivators. Anyone caught in this needs to recognize it, take some time out and let their insides catch up with their outsides. We are fortunate that no matter what happens, we are able to start anew if we want to. The system resets itself and then we begin fresh.
Make a living...sure, but dont make it your life...... to make a living........you have been tricked.
Thank you Marte for your quality comment
best
Richie,
It's a shame that we seem to be suffering from an epidemic of mediocrity and apathy. Unfortunately the excuse that "I need the job" doesn't help anyone in the long run. The way I see it is people do have a choice, either:
1. Show up, be there and give 110%, which will most likely have the effect of at least giving the customer a good experience and may rub off on you.
Or
2. Move on, get out, call it quits and give someone else the OPPORTUNITY to take your place.
Joe.....I like you comment. BTW, people do need the job, we know this. But, you have to practice being a good human being about it as well. Give & take and do not blame anyone for anything. Advertise..... who you are....where you are. Do your best and your best is out there shining brightly for all to see. You gotta have faith to know that one thing does lead to another....if you don't interfere and do the right thing. I remember when I visited Tahiti. There is not many places to eat there and the quality of food is limited. They would deliver fresh bread baguettes every day to the local stores. It was good , tasty, inexpensive, and there was plenty of it. My family and I quickly learned to appreciate that meal and stop complaining that we didn't get our daily ration of hamburger, fries and a drink. Once we appreciated that, we ended up knowing the locals and some of their home cooked meals. Add sunsets, warm water and contentment is upon you.....Best Joe...
Richie- Great post. Living a life that is mediocre is not good for anyone. Not the person living it or the people that have to deal with the fall out. Thank you for being so blundt!
Monica...thank you for receiving it as intended......We all make decisions all day long. Sometimes they those decisions lead you so far away from your "center" that you do not return. Who hasn't gone to much to the left or right at one time or another.... Remember the mistakes of our youth? We need something that brings us back and once we are back, we know what to do........Most excellent input Monica....
The Realtors who are in the business without having their heart in it are hurting the rest of us. How many times do you see listings on the market for months with no pictures? How many times do you see descriptions in the MLS that says 4 bedroom, 2 bath and nothing else? How many empty flyer boxes do you see around town? Unfortunately it makes us who work hard to get our listings sold look bad. It's no wonder sellers think we're overpaid. They've experienced the agents who don't have their heart in it.
Lisa.....very valid on "target" points......don't forget the principal of CONTRAST which is to distinguish by comparison. These Realtors, which you describe very well also make us stand out. Their clients say, how come there are never flyer's. I see other homes with well stocked flyer's. Then, the clients who ask to see the listing will comment, where are all the pictures. Do other have pictures and if they do, I want that too. So you see, the bad accents the good and the good chases the bad out of the way.....I remember more than once, people commenting how I am available and either answer my phone or quickly respond. What they were saying is....I am tired of people who do not respond or answer their phones. I want an agent that is available......Lisa, the ones they play by the rules, we rule......the ones that don't, on borrowed time.....thank you for allowing me to expand a thought from your potent comment......Best Lisa.....
I think all the part time realtors diluted the market and make it harder for honest Realtors who treat their job as a full time committment. If your heart isn't in it, move on
Ryan.....your statement is short, crisp and to the point.......Perhaps this economy will help weed out what you are describing? Thanks for coming by.....
I changed my slogan a few weeks ago because I wanted something that described the experience my clients will have with me: Where Smiles are Genuine & Business is Personal!
I have to maintain my integrity and work for what I believe in and I think everyone should. I think your post is meaningful and timely.
Nicole.....you are a good girl. People want realness, honesty, sincerity, courtesy, service, respect, validation, and simple answers. Why anyone would continue to complicate things is a subject to be studied. Remember that if you stay in the moment and respond as prompted (or not prompted) there and then, how can you go wrong? You know Nicole, a long time ago, I stopped being so willful about things. When someone would contact me for a lead, they know and I know I wanted the sale or listing. I found out that what is mine, is mine and when I just do my part, the other part will come. Look into this because it has served me well.......thank you for your most valued comment......with high regards....
