Throw out the Newspaper and Turn off the TV

Real Estate Agent with AllMountainRealty.com

The Title of this blog is a direct quote from Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia. For those of you who do not Know. Sen. Isakson was a Real Estate Broker. He still contributes to RPAC. He is one of the sponsors of the 8k credit. He wanted to make it 15k. His Career in Real Estate was VERY successful as he grew from the ground, North side Realty. One of the largest independent brokerages in Atlanta.

Sen Isakson spoke at the Real Estate FMLS show in Atlanta this  past week. He talked about the many down turns in real estate that he had been through. His answer to the what is going on in the market is simple. We are at the bottom and bumping along there. It is a great time to buy as rates .prices, and availability of homes has never been better for a buyer. So forget about all the doom and gloom . Throw away your newspaper, turn off your TV, and get out and help folks get their first homes while the market is so good. He did it in 2 down turns and he did quite well for himself. Nuf said

Interesting.  He probably has a good point, Charlie.  "News" is largely about selling fear and controversy.  While the reality is that things are touch and pretty darn challenging, such is the cycle of Real Estate ... and Life.

Well, I agree with him and I am sure there is some truth in what he says. However, I do not believe denial of the current market conditions is a solution. Maybe that is not what he meant but it sure sounds like it.

People say that it is so bad in the market that they shouldn't buy/sell real estate. I think it is going to be impossible to move forward unless people stop with the fear and start contributing to the stimulation of the real estate market.

Hello Charlie, it seems that is what we should do. I think we have to just focus on being positive in our own environment and to learn about how others have been successful in these types of markets. He should write a book. I would buy it! Good post!

Love where you live!

I don't think it is about denial, I think it is about focus.  You can buy into the doom conversation, but how do you feel when you walk away?  What if you got a call from a client right after you've just been knee deep in how bad things are?  How do you think you'd sound?  Would you be in the creative, solution finding mode?

I think it is smart to determine what kind of day you're going to have regardless of the news.  Inevitably whatever is on the news is not something you can have an effect on.  Your worry abuot it is not going to help turn it around.  Things always come around.  Why not be happy and useful to the people you CAN make a difference with in the meantime.

Thanks for a great post, Charlie!  Too often the blog posts are a litany of complaints.
