My First Blog

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Rox Realty

There are SO many things I need to learn to become a successful blogger.  Let's see - keep it short and concise.  You are not writing the epilogue to War & Peace.  OK, 300 to 500 words.  Got it.  How many is that so far...43.  Did you count to see if I'm correct??

Next is pick a topic you are familiar with...AND one others want to read about.  This could be tricky.  Not only is this my first blog entry - I'm a newbie REALTOR.  I just celebrated my sixth month anniversary since I got my license.  I don't think I'm doing too bad considering the economy and housing market in Arizona.  Actually, I think I'm doing well in spite of the market.  Perhaps my lack of experience during the boom days has prepared me for today's way of transacting business.  I don't have the "we've always done it this way" mentality.  While I may be a middle-aged dog, I can learn new tricks!

Part of my arsenal of new tricks is marketing.  How do I market myself?  I've had a Facebook personal page for a while, and created a business fan/like page a few months ago.  A local accounting firm hosted a series of LinkedIn training classes and I now have a LinkedIn professional page.   My broker mentioned ActiveRain at a sales meeting several months ago so I set up an account and have been lurking for a while, getting a feel for how it works.  You don't really want to know my opinion of Twitter...but I now have one of those too.

But how to get the word out...how to get MY name to the top of the search engines - I didn't have a clue!  On Thursday, I went to the Prescott RainCamp.  (I went with Anna "Banana" and the rest of the bunch in the limo to Prescott.  Check out her video and her blog on ActiveRain.  I'm the third banana)  I knew utilizing the Internet was my focus - but I didn't know exactly where to begin. THANK YOU Ben Kinney for reaffirming my thoughts and giving me a direction!  And now - I'm off and running with my blog.  That wasn't so hard.  It only took me TWO HOURS to get it together.

I'd love to hear other ideas on how to stand out in your market.  Have a great weekend!!

Becoming a knowledgable resource for your community is the first step to building your business.  I don't always talk about real estate but include other events in the area as well as history.  It seems to be a good balance and this has been another great year in real estate.
