Training Your Water...
Have you ever had to train your water to make it go the place you want to go? Any of you that have ever had to do this, knows how bothersome it really is.
There's the cajoling method. "Come on. You can do it! Now jump!!! Atta Boy! Good!" followed by some sort of treat for good behavior.
You can scold. "Bad water. Bad water. Shame on you for just pooling around..."
But as we all know, water just seems to have a mind of it's own and will do what it wants. Even when we get some of it trained, it soon forgets and we have to go through the sessions again. <sigh>
Why bother with all this training when we can just make it do what it wants to do naturally? A little forward thinking on the builders part would have eliminated the owner's anguish of having to go out and having to repeatedly train the water to jump up into the drain pipe.
Water is pretty lazy when you think of it. Why exert a lot of energy? Like this post, it is pretty easy to go down hill...

Another enjoyable post, i certainly enjoy reading your blogs, they are always informative and entertaining.
Very clever post, and so true. In our area Gravity plumbing is key to a second winter ski getaway.
Don is big on making sure that the water on our place goes where it's supposed to go. To my amazement even. When we take on a piece of property, he'll study the way that water travels when it rains.. and does not want any washing out... etc. He wants it to go where it's supposed.
Sometimes builders miss the point, don't they?
I've seen some strange things.
Water can cause so much damage if it's not planned.
Now I like the cajoling method but I don't think it's going to work.. :)
Good eveing Michael,
Sometimes Builders are on another planet when it comes to diverting water..you are right..with just a little forward thinking they could save a whole lot of anguish for a home owner! Great post Michael.
Pretty hilarious - but you sure make a good point! Water getting where it's not supposed to (naughty water!) seems to cause a huge proportion of house problems.
Michael - It's so hard to teach these contractors. How do you say gravity in Spanish?
This post is right on. Just remember that water does downhill! So simple yet so neglected.
okay michael, so builders need to know how to have training pants for a house i suppose....
It would be nice if contractors would actually check behind their subs and make sure the job gets done right.
