Even if You Do Have a Bladder Control Problem, Stop Peeing on My Floor...

OOPS! Sorry. I didn't mean to pee on your floor...Having been inspecting properties for 10 years, I have seen all kinds of issues with water heaters. Occasionally, I run into a water heater with a bladder control problem. Pressure builds up, a slight sneeze in the system and... OOPS!!! How embarrassing.

Now, one could put some diapers on the water heater or scatter news papers all over the floor, but unlike dogs or kids, water heaters can't be potty trained. And forget "those pills"! They won't really control this bladder problem either.

Odds are, the bladder in the expansion tank is either waterlogged or defective. Expansion tanks
are installed to keep "accidents" such as this happening. Every now and then, the bladder gets full and must be drained. Talk about a relief.

So if you see piddle puddles on the floor around your water heater, call a plumber. He'll be more than happy to assist you with your bladder control problem...

More good reasons for a professional home inspection before a home purchase and good maintenance after a purchase. Thanks for sharing.

I had a house that the pipes used to make a thumping sound every time you opened the faucet.  Would such a bladder work for that too?

Give that hot water heater a diaper! Or, at the very least, a new expansion tank!

I must agree with Charles, "when you gotta go, you gotta go" no fooling around.

Yes call a professional to take care of the bladder problem.

So that is what the expansion tank is for.  Unless you're a plumber or have a good home inspector, you might not ever know what that tank is for.
