Architecture at the Umlauf Series - Thursday, September 2nd 7:00pm

Umlauf Sculpture GardenThe opening program  of the Architecture at the Umlauf Series Fall Season takes this place Thursday, September 2nd. Doors open at 7:00 pm.

The event marks the beginning of the fall season of this incredibly popular program featuring local Austin Architects in a beautifully intimate setting. As a result of the strong ties between AvenueOne and the Art and Architectural communities, the monthly series was founded and is produced by two of my associates at AvenueOne Properties; Scott Harveyand Carla Umlauf (granddaughter of the esteemed sculptor) and is sponsored by our firm, AvenueOne Properties and AIA Austin. There will also be tickets on sale for the upcoming 2010 AIA Homes Tour so please bring your checkbooks!

The series is a creative venue allowing local architects to share with the public and professionals their work and its meaning within Austin's contextual landscape. The lectures take place on the grounds of the beautiful Umlauf Sculpture Garden at the Pavilion. This month, Brian Dillard, AIA is the featured speaker. In a change from previous events the program is free to the public as well as museum members! Come out and enjoy an excellent talk in this extraordinary venue. You might want to show up early because this event has been at capacity at all of the previous lectures. Additionally, now that it is actually cooling off  you can enjoy a stroll through the garden and enjoy the numerous sculptures!

Erin Thank you for stopping by, though warm, it will not be uncomfortable!

Laura I like that phrase, "Art in the Park" and yes, if you are ever in Austin, the gardens are not to be missed!

Tara The center is truly an oasis in the middle of the city and because of the sponsorship of our company, this event is free to the public and is an excellent way to introduce the public to local architects!

Hi Russell,

I trust that the event was well attended and enjoyed by all.  It's wonderful that your office is sponsoring such educational and entertaining events that give back to the neighborhood in that beautiful setting too.

What a wonderful working environment you have in Austin!

This is exactly the kind of garden I would love to wander in. It looks so inviting and lovely.

Could we get a close-up of that statue.  It looks rather interesting.

When you say “cooling off,” do you mean less than 100°F and 100% humidity?

My husband took me to a Texas A&M/LSU football game in College Station back in 1995 or so. Those Aggie fanatics stand up for the whole game, regardless of how hot it is. I think it was 100/100, and after the Star Spangled Banner and the kickoff, I had to go back to the student center for some air conditioning where I watched the game in comfort. Didn’t get sunburned, either!
