Condo Commando & Rotten Neighbors Website

Fight This caught my attention & I thought this was kind of clever. This guy will probably make some bank on the Google add words alone.

This afternoon I'm driving back from on of my listings listening to talk radio (I'm crazy like that). The Jerry Doyle show runs a piece on this guy that had crappy neighbors so he started a website called http://RottenNeighbor.com so that:

1. A person can tell the world that their neighbors are bad and what they do that is so nasty.
2. Before you move into a new area you can search by zip code to see if there are bad neighbors.

The owner of the website has already been on the Today Show on NBC and is all over the news. The site is getting tons of traffic and it's only a few weeks old. Come on, you can't resist putting in your zip code, can you? I just HAD to see who the condo commando was in my Bonita Springs neighborhood.

THANK GAWSH IT WASN'T ME!!

This is an example of what one complaint was in Fort Myers:

This guy does a redneck tune up on his crappy bike every weekend usually on Sunday morning or afternoon and doesn't even drive it! take a ride already!

Thankfully we have only good neighbors, all around me. Including the dirty old guy who likes to tell me which pajamas I've been wearing.

Creepie!!

He also tell me what chores I've been doing. "Noticed you mopped the kitchen floor this morning." Ew.

Wow Chris, I found a really bad one -- I was going to post it here but then realized it was probably too bad for AR!!!

Gol! I better get my lawn mowed and paint my trim! I'm a really nice neighbor, but I'm sort of into deferred maintenance. Yikes!

It's nice to see that you're able to mention nice people too. But the closest reports to my house are 100 miles away. I guess nobody here has heard about it yet.

What an ingenious idea! This site owner is sure to be rolling in the dough in the near future. My area's not listed yet. Hmmm. Maybe I'll make a contribution. LOL

haha... this is funny

but do you think that some people might shy away from a purchase if they already know the neighbors are unsavory??

technically you don't have to disclose that your neighbor sits on his deck with a pellet gun waiting for birds to shoot and mount on his fireplace! That would be an immaterial defect to the house :)

Hey Sarah,

This blog has received alot of traffic. There have been tons of traffic from google for "rotten neighbor" "bad neighor" "today show bad neighbor" "rotten neighbor website" and much more. I guess everyone has to deal with bad neighbors and this subject caught their attention.

A few undesireables.... this is the closest one, and it is about 25 minutes down the freeway......nothing in my area, and I am sure that is because a lot of people around here don't use the computer :)

This site could be dangerous since there is no monitoring.....apparently anyone can post, and some of what I saw appears to be petty bickering....not all , but enough that there might be slander issues....

Chris - thanks for keeping on the cutting edge - this is too much! It's a slippery slope in my opinion. I'm always curious about "slander" - can you really say anything about anyone today and get away with it? Wild!

Chris - I am tempted to post a couple of my own there on the site. By the way, how do you get your signature to say more than just your name (i.e. Chris Elizabeth Griffith ~ Bonita Springs Fl Real Estate)?

I think I put my full name in the first name slot and Bonita Springs Fl real estate for my last name.

That's funny how successful this guy's new website is. There seems to be a demand for that sort of thing now. I'm blessed here since I have no reason to put anyone, not yet anyway, on the site. But on a serious note, one bad apple in any neighborhood can turn prospective buyers away and drag down home values.

A quote from a Fair Housing course outline I've read that bears repeating:

"Real Estate is about homes, not about people or neighbors. When we begin talking with clients about people, we risk being accused of discriminating in some way. Regardless of issues about race, religion, gender preference, national origin or whatever other differences neighbors have, it's better to steer clear of discussing people with your clients. Talk about properties instead of people and you'll stay out of trouble".

I'm not saying that the site you mentioned is a Fair Housing issue, but publishing anything from the site that could be considered libelous, or even linking to it, could potentially get an agent into trouble! Determining what constitutes a bad neighbor is a value judgement. What if one of these "bad neighbors" complains to HUD that the negative comment about them was racially motivated? I'd speak with an attorney before linking to that website. At very least, a disclaimer would be a good idea..

I just read one of the posts on RottenNeighbors.com that was complaining about a neighbor of a particular ethinc background/nationality and their way of life. This is a classic example of what is risky about that site.
